Read my post. use the alternatives that are already out there, which focus on preventing the accidents in the first place rather than wagging a finger after the event (or after the non-event, if you like, as by the time a fine appears an accident has usually not happened).0 -

Rarely if ever have I come across someone who said "Nope I was travelling at xx" But i'm sure someone will tell me why people just dont say that kind of thing ?
I've no idea why they don't.
I was stopped by a traffic copper a few years ago. He asked me if I knew what speed I was doing, I told him yes and told him what speed I was doing. He asked me why, so I told him what the conditions were and why I thought it was safe to exceed the limit.
No points for me. I was told he agreed with my reasoning, but to watch out in future in case I get someone on a bad day. Fair enough. Though even then I wouldn't have objected if I had been fined - stopped on the spot and told why I'm doing the wrong thing is acceptable. An automatic process that disregards changing circs isn't.0 -

Personally I'd rather children were taught how to use roads, rather than blame the motorist.
As a parent and a motorist I cannot believe that some people feel a child should be responsible if a car is speeding.0 -

but they should be aware of them, dont take it for granted the motorist has seen you,and is doing the correct speed for the area. for thier sake they should be aware....work permit granted!0 -

Why not prevent them from causing accidents by actually slowing them down at the location they were speeding?
You mean by putting speed cameras and speed traps in at locations where they happen like they currently do?
Just because you can't see a reason why it's there doesn't mean there isn't one.0 -

And outside of rush hour - say 8-11pm at night? Or on a weekend?
Why? You were taught in your driving lessons how and when to check the speedo. Surely you can tell how fast you're going by now - especially doing 40 in a 30?IvanOpinion wrote: »The one thing I have noticed is that I am spending a lot more time watching my speedometer instead of the road ... which has caused me, and other drivers, to carry out emergency slow downs because we missed somebody else braking for a split second longer.0 -
Conor have you been elevated to the Sainthood yet?
One of the funniest stories I remember. There was an old Colonel in our village (you can imagine the type) who complained constantly to the police about speeding motorists until the police eventully popped down with a radar one day and he was one of the first caught. Just goes to show eh.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!
Most weeks I do in excess of 2000 miles a week driving all over the country. I've done over 1.7 million miles since 1988 points and accident free. Do I always obey the speed limit? I'd be lying if I said I did. HOWEVER, I drive with my eyes open and observing what's going on around me which is why I don't miss bright yellow boxes stood on a pole or blatantly out of place looking vans.
I'm not the only one. So what are we doing right and you doing wrong?0
