I thought it was great! I think it helps if you've had a friend similar Poppy and you already know that they aren't as annoying as they first seem and have a heart of gold. I did think the flamenco teacher was going to pop a blood vessel in her neck. It could've gone on longer and I wouldn't have minded and I thought the driving instructor put on a great perfomance (but has put me off learning to drive for a while!) Fabulous like Poppy 9.5/10!! :T
Sorry to hear you didn't get to see it destresserai, I'd have been mighty annoyed if I spent money on the tram to get there and then find it cancelled. Have you got that same momentum email to contact them about it tomorrow?0 -
Poppy grew on me, with her constant smile she reminded me of Hayley Mills always being 'glad' in Pollyanna. One of life's happy people who brighten up life. Thought the scene with the children in school was very well done. I wish Poppy had been my teacher as her class seemed really fun.
Other half, however found her annoying. Two people walked out of the film about two thirds of the way through and sensed he would have liked to go with them. He says it is the worst film he has ever seen!
I would give it 7/10. If you want my OH score sadly only 0.5/10!!

Also saw Happy Go Lucky at West India Quay, quite well attended, but not overly packed.
I thought it started off quite slow, think I had low expectations because I hadn't seen a trailer or really heard about this film, so I wasn't excited to see it.
I'll tell you what really got me laughing was the introduction of the driving instructor -that was so my driving instructor! Although I would like to stress that the similarity was only from the teaching style and manner in the beginning - the way he was explaining how to drive, and be safe, I was in stitches - are most driving instructors like that?
I agree with elski5, I think you might be able to relate or understand (or tolerate in some cases) Poppy more if you have a friend like that, she was a bit off the wall, but she had a good heart and only wanted to help people - that made me like her in the end. Beginning it was a 4/10 but by the end I think it was an enjoyable 7.5/10.0 -

elski5 let me know if you want the name of my driving instructor, honestly he was very good - great motivator to pass the test as quickly as possible :rotfl:0 -
Just seen Happy Go Lucky at Sheffield.
I enjoyed the film.
I found Poppy's enthusiasm for life infectious.
A snap shot of a single 30 year old eccentric living in London.
Nice to see something a little different and British.

i was there too - what a pain i was told tommorrow at 6.30 and at the ticket desk definetly wed 8.45 - so i have no idea. i hassled them to validate my parking as i dont see why i had to pay for that if i dont get to see the film.
was it only wandsworth that was cancelled? as they were ready to show it and headoffice rang them at the last minute to cancel:mad:
I was there too and was told Wednesday. Must be right, because they're doing In Bruges on Tuesday with seefilmfirst and I can't see them doing two previews on one night.0 -
I have seen that happen in the past! There are some cinemas that run exclusive screenings of Happy-Go-Lucky on Wednesday, followed by a live link to a Q&A Session with Mike Leigh at the Ritzy, Brixton (I have seen competitions for it), but those are different cinemas I thought and not Cineworlds. However, the Cineworld Unlimited April issue, which I picked up today, DOES mention exclusive advance screenings (without the Q&As) at the cinemas that screened (or should have screened) it today. The issue isn't clear about the date, but follows with this sentence: It will also be screened in Fulham Road and Cambridge that evening. Check at box office for further details. Now everything's as clear as mud... Oh and a small Film Times leaflet I picked up mentions advance showings of Three and Out on 24 April and Forgetting Sarah Marshall on 23 and 24 April, though does not give any further details.Reclaimed thanks to this site:
