You're joking right? It's not out on DVD anywhere in the world - it only came to cinemas anywhere about a month ago. Have you been out buying dodgy DVDs?
You should read up on R5 aka Region 5 DVDs. This region covers Russia.
There are many movie companies on board to release DVD quality movies much quicker to Russia in an endeavor to combat piracy. Their black markets are really bad.
Now what some clever people have done is get the R5 release and strip out the sound (russian audio track). They then find the best available English track (usually to the standard of Dolby Digital 2.0) and then mux the two together using some very powerful editing software.
The end result = Perfectly synced English DVD with no menu. Picture Perfect but lacks a 5.1 track.
Audio quality can vary but it is definitely good audio. Picture quality is flawless - as normal as any other DVD out there.
And Hellboy 2 R5 DVD came out just over 2 hours ago for some lucky people :P0 -
Saw Miss Pettigrew at Vue West End yesterday. Was quite packed but there were seats towards the edges (I hate single middle aisle screens as it does not allow late comers to discreetly take their seats on the less desirable far ends). Also the incline was pretty poor in that screen, I was near the back but on the left hand side and people's heads were partially getting in the way. The seats are also very small, but there is something I like about the Vue West End, with the curtains on the screen, it is a different viewing experience to some of the more flashy cinemas (which I also like too).
Anyway I thought it started a bit slow, but I was pleasantly surprised (the title did not inspire a great deal of confidence for me!). Really enjoyed the film and thought it was a lovely story. 7.5 out of 10 for me.
Wolverine - can I change my score for Get Smart to 8.5? I saw Madonna's video for Four Minutes today and I burst out laughing remembering scenes from the film - relatively speaking I think I enjoyed it more than a lot of the other films I scored at 8, so it deserves an upgrade!0 -

I agree with your opinion of the Vue West End, it has no real legroom, is weirdly shaped and has no incline to speak of, but then, none of the Central London ones really do, which is why I love the newer cinemas around Canary Wharf and Greenwich. We saw Mamma Mia at the Cineworld West India Quay last night (free tickets, I have you know!), and it was fab! (both screen and movie).
As for the rating for Get Smart, I had exactly the same thought! I would like to upgrade this one to 9/10 please! :beer:Reclaimed thanks to this site:

A chance to see the latest film from BAFTA award-winning director Shane Meadows sees him reunited with Thomas Turgoose, the young star of the internationally acclaimed This Is England. Turgoose plays Tommo, a troubled young lad whos run away to London. There he meets Marek, a shy Polish teenager who shares a small flat with his labourer father in a rundown area. When Marek agrees to let Tommo stay with them, unbeknownst to his father, the pair form a strong bond as they work odd jobs for an eccentric neighbour and compete for the attention of Maria, a beautiful French waitress, and try to avoid discovery by Mareks father.
Somers Town is a heart-warming tale of how life-changing friendships can be found in the most unlikely of places.Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0 -
Morning All:
Did anyone else arrive last night at the Oxford Odeon to be told the Get Smart screening was on the 12th not the 11th?
Would not have been so bad if it was a local theatre, but after an hours drive & paying for 3 hours of parking!!!
To make it even worse, was told there would be no manager on duty until today!!! So there was no opportunity to raise a stink!marialionza wrote: »I really hope you don't let it wash over you ! Do something, what do they need a manager for? Can they not think for themselves. Who do Odeon give jobs to... morons! Do they chosen them with that specification? My God !I was there. To be fair, I don't think it was Odeon's fault. See Film First and Warner Brothers were responsible for the promotion of the film. The cinema hadn't even received the film...
...Anyway, I thought the situation was handled very professionally. If you still have your voucher, I'd definitely call today and inquire about getting in to see it at a later date. I asked the manager to sign/verify mine, but I got the impression that the voucher itself would be enough.
Firstly, a thank-you to marialionza & IamJen for your advice!
And secondly, aA quick update on the result of having a moan at both Odeon & SeeFilmFirst about the non-exisatant preview of Get Smart!
Submitted a note to customer services on-line who responded promptly and said they would have 'management' at the Oxford Odeon look into the matter -- of course in plain speak this means 'you can whistle'!
Got a much better result from an e-mail to SeeFilmFirst, who are contacting the management as well, but are putting two free movie tickets into the post to me to make up for the inconvenience.
So the result is don't take abuse from the Beast! Definately complain when service is not up to par, but of course being polite but firm gets you a lot further than loosing it!
