  • The one I use is called Graham Wickes (Lawn Doctor Essex) but I don't know if he'd travel as far as Norfolk. You can google him.

Waste of money IMHO, but horses for courses.

Just mowing weekly and over seeding any bare patches will sort most lawns out.

  • O.K. BJ Now You've Admitted To Being A Pro, Maybe You And This "Ste Character" Should "Kiss & Make Up" ? The General Lesson Learned Here Seems To Be That Unless You Have Access To The Correct (And Legally Available) Chemicals To Carry Out This Specialist Job, You Should Leave It To "The Professionals"! (not The 70's Ford Capri Driving TV Agents) But LAWN MASTER. And Remember You 2, Play Nice, Santa Sees All!! ;-)

This is all a bit sad. Individual lawns will vary tremendously and no amount of feed etc will sort some of them, without the requirement to dig 'em up and treat the basic problems that lie beneath. Also, some people insist on trying to grow lawns where they will never do well, such as in dense shade cast by trees.

It is therefore no wonder that different people have varying experiences. But will Greenthumb or any other franchise turn down business? I doubt it.

Personally, I like to see a lawn with a bit of clover in it, or areas of people's gardens with a wild lawn which is cut in July (if they have the space.) On my lawns, when I've had them, cutting has been the main chore, not doing a bit of weeding or feeding.

Outside, my car is looking totally filthy, thanks to all the farm vehicles here. I could take it to Joe Bloggs in town and have him give it a valet for about £25, but it will still be the same old banger. Alternatively, I could go out, put the hose over it and do a quick vacuum in half an hour. It won't look as good as if Joe Bloggs does it, but I'll be £25 quid up.

I feel the same way about lawn care companies as I do about car cleaners. Neither is particularly good for the environment or your wallet and sometimes, if you have a naff car, or a second rate site for your lawn, there are better things to spend hard-earned money on.;)

Sad thing is that this thread appears to have 2 low post count spammers on it recommending a certain lawn treatment company and another giving moral support. If others agree hit the spam button and apologies to the OP

You are right of course, but I thought I'd go for the sympathy vote and see if it led anywhere first.

TBH I am sorry for people who have bought into something like Green Thumb when we are in a recession. Some resort to Googling themselves and end up in combat mode on a forum like this. No excuse for rudeness, but I appreciate what's causing it.

I’m sorry if you are so easily offended but what you seem to be suggesting is opinions are only a one-way street.[/QUOTE]

Two 'I'm sorrys' is a result.

I came here originally from the Debate House Prices & Economy Board, where I still lurk, so I'm hardly a shrinking violet. If you've seen that place, you'll know what I mean!

To quote myself: 'you are entitled to your opinions as much as anyone, and I don't presume that you originally came here to be ridiculed.'

Rhiwfield and I will be happy to be proved wrong on the spamming issue too. It happens on this board from time to time. You don't need a post count in the zillions to gain some credibility.;)
