Yes davetrousers is bang on the button as per usual - get a hire car and get exploring. There is so much to see around the island, and car hire gives you that flexibility whilst keeping your costs down. You could easily spend the same amount of money on just one excursion... so keep the flexibility.
The petrol stations in Playa Blanca itself are served by staff who will fill up for you. The Repsol on the main road out towards Yaiza is only accessible in the northward direction as you leave the town... and is self service. There is one on the roundabout as you enter the town... and another at the Marina Rubicon. Just learn the Spanish for the amount you want putting in. 10 euros will get you to the other end of the island and back very easily in a normal car. So just say "Diez por favor" (dee-eth poor fav or) and they'll fill you up. "Sin Plomo" means unleaded... and most hire cars tell you inside the petrol cap whether your car is unleaded or diesel. But do check before you drive away from the car hire place.
Good luck!

The reason I struggled with the Repsol Station is that it had three buttons on it (1, 10 and another one) I assumed that the 10 was for 10 litres, but I wanted more. So I had to go in and ask in my finest Spanish how to get it to work!
When I filled up again, I made sure I went to a manned station (outside of Arrecife) and just said "full", lol!.....0 -
Ah... sorry! You press the button the number of times you need it - so hit the 10 button twice for 20. At least I seem to remember so... we normally just put 10 in

OK so how do you use it 'normally'? So that you can fill the car up. Is that the 3rd button?.....0

Hiya, Think this is a great thread, thanks OP. I'm looking at booking somewhere for 31st Jan till 7th Feb next year. What is the weather like there? Is it good sunbathing weather? I ask because we went to Tenerife Xmas gone and had horrible weather, only two hot days rest was rain.
Thanks very much

Cabrera Medina do an astra for 100eur for the week pickup at airport. we came back 10 days ago, recommend Playa Blanca. There isnt a lot to see on the Island if I am honest but the car came in handy for nipping back to the airport ahead of the fleet of tour buses.0

I'm off to Corralejo in Fuerteventura at roughly that time. I'm expecting (hoping) for low 20s during the day and about 15 degrees during the night.
Bear in mind that it will be dark at about 4.30pm!.....0 -
