  • Thanks for putting this into your weekly email. A great reminder that we need to each register. Did so without any problems and got approval back innediately. For safety as we are In Transit both ways I registered twice - once for the way out and once for the way back to the UK. Probably no need but peace of mind!!

So if I lose it before the application is authorised? Or I make another trip to the US several months later and can't find the piece of paper...

The point being is that there are many circumstances when you could lose the application number and have no means of recalling it - unlike say your email address / date of birth / passport number.

I can't recall any other on-line system where if you don't have access to one piece of information, you can't use it and have no means of obtaining it again

Oh, come on. Just write the reference number down and put it in your passport, and put one in your suitcase too. It's not rocket science. And print a copy too! With reference to the poster who asked if the document has to travel with you, well, it's different for cruise passengers.I'm joning a ship in the US and the cruise company have told me I MUST take the document with me and present it at check-in.

I didn't think you could register twice. Didn't they query the same passport number the second time?
  • I thought minor offences were deleted after so many years)

How long are my records kept on the Police National Computer?

Minor convictions from over 10 years ago are usually wiped from the Police National Computer (PNC). However, if you have been convicted of three or more crimes they can be kept on the PNC for 20 years.
The PNC record will be kept for life if you have been given prison sentences of six months or more, or if you were convicted of sexual crimes, violence, or serious drug crimes. For further info about wiping records, contact the NACRO Resettlement Helpline on 020 7840 6464.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act doesn't apply to the US Government when they ask the question though, so convictions need to be disclosed. If the conviction isn't shown on PNC I can't think how they'd find out about it mind you...

Im going to NYC in March 09 for the first time (and my first time to the states), so i will have to fill one of these out aswell?

If you are a UK passport holder, yes. All nationals and citizens of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries - including the UK - will be required by law to obtain a travel authorization prior to traveling to the United States under the VWP.

  • Can anybody advise me on my situation. I was convicted of drink driving in 1996 as i was going to the USA i got a 10 year visa this has since run out. The question is do i need to apply for another one or will i be allowed in without one with the new visa waiver form ? Dont want to risk being turned round at the other end.

    Thanks in advance
