You must apply for an ESTA online to enter the USA after 12 Jan 2009

It means exactly what it says. Your ESTA application has been approved. It does not guarantee you entry. This is down to the IO when you present yourself at US immigration. But if there are no problems, you'll get through ok. Don't forget to print the information and take it with you.0

I assume he ticked no to criminal convictions?Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
yeah thats right as we contacted the police and asked if his conviction was spent over here and would he be ok and they said yes.
Why is that wrong?0 -

It's wrong because the police here (other than those dealing with international liaison) are clueless as to US law and immigration.
They really had no business in making a statement on the subject.0 -
Hi again, im hoping someone will be able to give me some information about usa visa application! My other half had a conviction some 30 years ago for robbery so he has been refused esta & had to apply for a visa to travel to the usa. We got news today that his interview date is 4 weeks away which is fab, but are hoping to travel only 1 week after the interview, will he have his visa by then? Is 1 week enough time for it to be processed & sent out? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks in advance for any info you all can give.0

Assuming the visa is approved at the interview (by no means certain but 30 years since the offence might swing it) then it takes about 3 days to issue the visa and then 1-2 more to get it to you. Say a week.
I'd allow longer - you don't want to get refused/referred to Washington for a decision and have to cancel the holiday. Better not to book it until the visa is in your hands.0 -
i have just come back form new york and there not even likely to implement the online visa forms until late this year and again for the second time this year of travelling and applying for a visa online. i have still had to fill the bl**dy green form in on the plane.
i am travelling again in a week to florida and i will complete the online form as im going with the family and i dont want to get to orlando and have and issue.
but you can bet your life i will have to fill in the green card again.
on the issue above regarding the convictions i know of a couple of people who have had brushes with the law one of them quite serious and they travel frequentley to the states and have never had any issues and dont declare there convictions. maybe they will get there collars felt when the esta online forms come into forceneed to have a lightbulb moment0 -
Has anyone done the online visa waiver application for the US. I did one for my sister and her husband and I thought they were going to charge me £20 for each application. I entered my debit card details but no money has been taken and this was about 3 weeks ago. I received their authorisation within 72 hrs, so it has been processed. Did I read the website wrong do you think?
And, when you get on the plane I take it you don't have to fill out a 'Green Card' anymore. Is it straight forward when going through immigration and customs. Please let me know your experiences. My sister is worried because she doesn't understand the new system and I ain't much help either.
