0700 personal number info
Hi, just registered, first post here :j . I have recently completed my degree in computer science and have been doing a bit of web design. Im looking to print out some business cards but there is an issue with what contact number I should put down.
Im currently on a decent '3' package but I will most likely switch after 8 odd months when it expires. Ive been looking into 0700 numbers and cant decide whether they are the best solution.
I noticed that some companies are offering them free but stupidly high call charges to the people who call your personal number. Others have them at more reasonable rates but charge around 5gbp a month if you do not receive calls for at least 100 mins a month.
Can anyone please recommend a good 0700 number, preferably not too high calling charges, and I dont mind paying an annual fee maybe a tenner a month or something? What I will be doing is calling back all my clients anyway after they contact me as I have plenty of free mins.
Ta.

Why do you want a personal number? They're ridiculously expensive for others to call and are not included in free minutes packages as far as I'm aware.
You'd be better off setting up a redirect 0800/0870 number and paying an annual fee but most MSE users would advise against this because it's busines culture going against the interests of moneysavers.
have a look at this VoIP thread if you're ok about using a home phone instead although you will probably already have that if you have a landline alreawdy.

https://www.call08.com for the redirect but there are companies out there offering cheaper services.0 -
Do you want to terminate your alternative number on a landline, or your mobile.PF.0

I personally dont have a landline yet, im still at my parents place so i'd rather stick to my mobile for the time being.
I just want a way for people to get hold of me on my mobile if im out and about, without the hassle of having to reprint business cards every year because ive jumped ship and changed tariffs.
Mainly need this for business image really, for the first time clients. After the client is on board, I normally do all the calling anyway, and thats only if and when required, as most of the communication is done easily over email.
The 08 numbers seem a tad bit too expensive to be honest. Just got to keep on looking I guess. Im sure theres one out there with no minimum call usage and small annual fee, which will keep me going nicely until im up there competing with mr gates and them0 -

Some places offer 0870 numbers for free mate and you will earn money when people call you.
And besides, you're not going to get much business if you use an 070 number or at the very least you'll have some pretty disgruntled customers when they see their telephone bill.0 -

If they are able to provide the service for free and even give you some money on top, I guess they are even worse with the amount they charge, right?Phonix wrote:And besides, you're not going to get much business if you use an 070 number or at the very least you'll have some pretty disgruntled customers when they see their telephone bill.
Very true indeed.
Ive come up with Plan B! Maybe get a landline (can you take landline numbers with you when you move though?) or use my spare PAYG sim and mobile and put that number only on the business card. That way, I could maybe just leave the mobile at home(when im out) (or landline with answerphone) and get customers to leave their name and number and i'd get back to them when I pickup their messages. The problem with this method would be that I could potentially lose clients due to not getting back to them quick enough? hmmm....0 -
actually on second thoughts the redirect is probably quite expensive as it's to a mobile. Can't you just put your mobile on silent whilst you're away?0

Hi there i am sorry if i do not fully get this thread but you want a number to put on your business cards? correct ? you have a mobile number? correct?
you want to change contracts or swap back to payg later on ?? why not just decide which you want payg or contract then just port the number off the chosen one to another network if you want to change you can request PAC codes for either payg or contract phone numbers and take them with you to any network so just choose which of the numbers you want to keep with print your cards and get PAC code when you change networks ??? if at a later date you get a landline just write that on the back of the cards till you go to press on them again so either way they have a business card with one or 2 numbers on but the mobile is a permenant fixture as always portable no matter where you live
Hope this is of some help£2.00 savings club =£2.000 -
I can't sleep
Although I have a great way for you to save money.
You can do all you need for free.
Tommorow, although I might be asleep in the late early evening.
Sipgate (a VoIP based company) offer free UK geographical numbers if you register a free account with them.
Tommorow I will set up a https://www.sipgate.co.uk account for you using your email address. I will then record a greeting of your choice, using my IP phone.
I will try and make it sound as professional as possible.
Then to find out who's called you whilst your internet phoneline is offline lol, you can check the voicemail, however this will be downloadable as .wav files from the sipgate account page, and you will be notified of each voicemail by single emails.
Hey presto we have a way for you to check when you get a message simply by logging into msn messenger because msn messenger will notify you when you recieve an email.
Isn't that handy!
And all for free.
Also why not tout the moneysaving aspect of ringing a UK geographical number on your business card.
Say, 020 is a UK geographical number, a free to call on most uk call packages!
I will also check the terms of use of sipgate.0 -

Not true i am afraid. Misleading!!!
Depends on what sort of call package caller has and whether they are calling from a residential or business landline ,a payphone,or a mobile.
eg.Most people are still on BT opt I where the call would be chargeable, and if some one was ringing on a business line the call would be chargeable would it not.PF.0
