  • So glad you got sorted! I agree they are great at customer services - and it's amazing how quickly cats re-adapt! We were convinced Rocky wouldn't go near the flap again after a day of it not letting him in as he totally avoided it and came round the front to the windowsill to be let in even though we'd left it on open mode. Once we knew it was fixed we let him out, turned all the lights off so he didn't come round to the windowsill and sat on the kitchen floor for an hour at 11pm waiting for him to try and come in. Sure enough he realised it was his only access and finally appeared and beeped in though the flap. He must have wondered what was going in as we sat there praising him as if he'd just won a gold medal at the olympics!!!

    If you download this PDF:

    PP0203OpeningTemplate.pdf

and print it out at 100%, it will show you how big the flap is - so you could hold it up against your current flap and see if there's any difference?

This is for the SmartFlap by the way, if that matters.

EDIT - just to clarify, this is the flap size only, the surround is obvious ly a bit bigger and you can find a template for that here: PP0203.pdf

    Cheers

    Drew

"Template.pdf" is a cutting template and does not include any reference to the surround size - it's for the square or round hole to be cut in the door or glass.
And yes the flap size and cutout dimensions are different for between the old model and the latest Smartflap.
I've been trying to get information regarding the relationship between the cutout and the main surround of the SmartFlap unit from PetPorte (Martyn) - so far without success. Although Martyn has been quite prompt in replying, so far he hasn't grasped what I'm asking - it's not rocket science and I think I made myself clear.
It's obviously centralised horizontally but is offset vertically. If anyone can tell me what the dimension is from the bottom of the door cutout to the bottom of the surround main body I'd be very grateful!:j
This information appears to be missing from all of the templates and installation instructions - in my (humble) opinion it's as vital as the hole size!Well here's hoping someone (with a simple ruler) can fill in the missing information before I go and buy one!
    Cheers:)

The casing on my pet porte is 23cm square.
This is measured at the middle - the corners of the casing are slightly rounded so I have stuck to the square bits!

The frame at the very bottom of the flap is 1.5cm wide - so measuring from the bottom of the clear flap to the bottom of the white plastic frame.

At the top, the white plastic frame is 5.5cm wide.

At the sides the white plastic frame is 3.5cm wide. This does not include the area where the clear flap starts to curve into the rounded base.

    Hope that helps

    Puss
    xx

These measurements are for the new version - the one that fits in the staywell hole! - its called the smartflap.
  • Hey Pusscat - Yes it was a Smartflap that I'm looking to buy - many thanks, that's just what I needed, and so quick too.
Maybe you should apply toPetporte for a job on customer service! You seem to be doing better than them at the moment.
Seriously though, that's one hurdle cleared, now all I've got to work out is how to prevent the porch bit smashing itself to pieces on the outside wall - our door opens outwards and fully back.
Door stop - another job I see on the horizon, ho hum it never ends does it?
    Thanks again:)

    Happy to help!

do you want to know how wide the porch is then?

I have measured it anyway - porch is 14.5cm from the face of the door to the widest part of the porch.

This will depend on how you set it in the door - my hole is slightly smaller than the casing and the casing is then held on to the door with silicone.

  • Hi fellow cat lovers...............am really keen on this petporte cat flap but a bit put off still that it has to be plugged in, sorry if I'm going over something that's already been discussed but does anyone know of/have opinions on the "Sureflap" from looking on their website it doesn't need to be plugged in and runs on batteries......any opinions would be gratefully accepted. Just hope I make a decision before the cats are too old to get through it! :oThey're 6 months at the moment LOL!:D
Oh and I have an aluminium back door as well which could be a problem!
thanks to you all for your posts

    ;)
Thanks Puss - on the Petporte website it does say that the porch is 145mm but in keeping with the general lack of useful info helpfully omits to say where this is measured from! So your info is very welcome - thanks yet again.:T

I was somewhat apprehensive about forking out £100 for a cat flap, especially as our cats are quite old and suspicious of new things.
Now, having fitted it last weekend and let the cats get used to it for a week, I can say it is money well spent.
We bought the Petporte Smart flap because I wanted it to be on mains electricity, although it does come with the option of using battery only. We kept the battery in it as back-up in case of power cuts.
It was easy to programme and the cats got used to using it in just 1 day (this was facilitated by a bag of prawns).
The locking device on it looked a bit insubstantial and I was worried that the local mad tom cat would force his way it, however it seems strong enough and we haven't had any unwelcome visitors.
    I'd recommend it.

Well I'm looking for the cheapest prices for the wall versions (having decided to bite the bullet - & risk the drafts - & go for it.

The two cheapest places I can find for the wall version are
    http://www.thevetpetshop.co.uk/petporte-microchip-flap-p-2611.html
£99.42 & free delivery for the old style (larger flap) one

    And

    http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=44&pf_id=53481
£99.99 & free delivery for the new style one.

Better still but I think time limited
    http://www.catflaps4microchippedcats.com/
£98.99 & free delivery for the new style.

    And advances on those prices?
