Can anyone tell me if they have had a problem with there cat being to big for it, one of my 9 month old cats is already a bit of a porker and im worried he might get even bigger and not be able to get through it with ease???
I'm still dithering about buying one (I'm loath to knock a giant hole through the livingroom wall) because of drafts & Georges size. He's just over 1 & a big lad, massive head & neck.0 -
Hi Clancy,
Of course, there's 'big' and there's 'big' but one of ours is somewhat on the likes-his-food side of the line and he gets through no problem despite at first glance you thinking there'd be no chance.
If you really think you might have an issue you might want to consider purchasing the 'old style' Pet Porte (i.e. not the new Smart Flap version) as this was somewhat bigger.
Mathew
Oh ok thanks for the advice, the pet porte website only has the new one's on its so will have to look to purchase one elsewhere, its so hard to judge if he will go through it from measurements and i think he still has growing to doMum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -

I think i will be able to judge things more when i have the item in front of me, so maybe purchase it and have a look before fittingMum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -
I thought my cat flap was 175mm as that was what was advertised but now that I've used the cut out it is actually significantly smaller than this pet porte hole at least height-wise. So... I think my big boy would fit through ok. He's big in the sense that he's a big built cat as well as having a bit of an extra belly jelly :-)0

Why don't you contact the manufacturer and ask the maximum size of cat it will fit? Cats have very flexible joints and can squeeze through amazingly small spaces.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

clancy if you do decide to buy the smart flap I'd advise not buying from the actual petporte.com site. They will charge you £102.50 for the flap and £6.95 delivery. I bought my old version petporte from petplanet.co.uk and at the moment they have the smart flap for £99.99 with free delivery.
I don't work for petplanet, just a satisfied customerI had a problem and a query when I bought our flap and they sorted both out very quickly and painlessly.
This site has the older, bigger version of petporte still available (shop around, this is just the first hit I got on google) http://www.thevetpetshop.co.uk/petporte-flap-c-169.html
There is also the Sureflap microchip flap http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_flaps_nets/cat_flaps/microchip_flaps/138700
which is cheaper than the petporte.
Another thing you might want to consider because you have more than 1 cat is that in the future the smart flap is going to get a selective exit kit.
This is from the smart flap blurb....
**In the near future a selective exit kit will be released. This optional extra enables you to control which of your cats are allowed out side and at what time of day!**
The old version that I have doesn't have this capability and never will have.

I bought the smart flap from petplanet before christmas, it was £85 inc delivery, if you can wait it might be worth hanging on to see if they lower the price again.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Read this thread with interest-I still have a major marauding cat issue. Nothing I do deters the cats from next door. Next door don't have a cat flap so the cats come in here- I've given up on Staywells. The one I posted about on this thread is in bits-the collars didn't work and said cats literally smashed it to bits getting in.
I need a cat proof cat flap-the fixtures on the ones I've had just aren't strong enough. The Siamese 's chip has wandered to under his armpit and I was told that the Porte cat flap wouldn't read the chip. Also there isn't a powert source next to the gaping hole in the wall where the cat flap used to be
I do think the situation would be helped if next door put in a cat flap but they don't seem to believe this. The other maurader is a large ginger tom who is shut out ( and this was when the weather was really bad) Don't quite know where his owners expected him to go
Advice appreciated0
