  • Thank you for all your helpful replies. I've bought the tea tree shampoo/conditioner and some coconut oil. Buying the Nittigritti comb next me thinks!

Cannot believe how many i am still finding in my daughter's hair. She last had them when she was 18 months old and is now 7 so I suppose I have been lucky she has avoided them ever since but they seem to have come back with a vengance! I'm scratching like mad now typing this!!!

THanks again for all your replies
  • The product available in this ebay shop worked brilliant for me for me and as far as i know its completely natural. It is a wet combing system which is easily the most effective way to remove both the lice and the eggs!
One application was enough to sort out my kids, now i use the repellent spray each day also to make sure they stay away & have a couple of 'just in case' packs
Definately worth a try i'd say!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
When you have finally got rid of them, you need to keep them at bay. Each morning I spray my DDs hair with a mixture of lavendar essential oil and tea tree oil (10 drops of each in 100ml of water), just as they are goin gout of the door - we have been nit free for over 12 months since we started doing this.
  • Hi
I believe that you can get the nitty gritty on prescription. if not ebay is cheap. The repellant is available in home bargains
  • i still can't believe that schools don't enforce a rule about headlice and send kids home that have them. my partners children from his 1st marriage had them nearly every week for 2 yrs. their mother used to blame it on the new partner etc as she worked. one time the 9 yr old with pale blonde hair had so many you could stand a metre away and see them crawling. i combed out over 400 of them. i can't understand why teachers never said anything. they obviously must have seen them, but even with treatment she would get them back the next week off of classmates. time to bring back the nit nurse
  • my daughter had head lice and i started to pull my hair out as i spent a lot of money on different solutions but they still stayed!
i would suggest you use full marks solution, then just daily keep combing her hair with a nit comb with conditioner on her hair i hope you get rid of them hun, they are horrible things.

dont know about others schools but my sons school arent allowed to do this ,they also say that children dont have to stay off school until they are cleasr of lice ? surely this is where the problem with re infection lies ?

they also not allowed to make it known that there is an outbreak of nits ,but they do put a bit in the news letter reminding parents to check their childrens hair

bring back the old fashioned "nit nurse" i say :rotfl:
  • Well I used to be the nit nurse and it was the worst job in the world! Nit nurses are just school nurses and every scool has one. however, each nurse has on average 3000 kids on her caseload. Her top priorities are child protection, children at school with health problems and health promotion. There will almost certainly be headlice clinics run by school nurses in the areabut the previous poster is right Iwas not allowed to check heads or send infected children home. I did hear of a few nasty fights between parents over this issue it is really upsetting to have your child constantly reinfected just because one parent can't be bothered. I personally like Hedrin and find it very effective-but technique is very important -really coat the hair well and leave it on as long as you can, never miss the second application and use a nit comb as well.
earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:
