no offence but who wants dettol and white vinegar on their heads??!! It can't do the hair any good. Just get a nitty gritty comb, you'l get
99% of the nits and lice out first use, use it every bath time for the next few weeks(life cycle froms eggs to mature lice is 2 weeks)just to make sure.0 -
Yes I have to agree with the others. My 2 girls get nits every so often. Thay are a pain!! I NEVER buy products for them.
People get very funny about pesticides being used on fruit and veg yet will happily coat their children's HEADS with them time and time again!!
Nit comb, wet hair, lots of conditioner is the BEST way to get rid of them.0 -
Swear by Teatree Shampoo and Conditioner.
We buy ours from ASDA.
Touch wood no problems since using-used to be an ongoing problem.
Good Luck0 -
Hedrin is not a pesticide.0

The cheapest and best way to get rid of them is lots of cheap conditioner and a good small toothed comb, and perseverance (depending on how long/thick the hair is, it could take half an hour to thoroughly comb through.
To prevent them once you have got rid of them, add a few drops of pure tea tree oil to your conditioner everytime you was his hair.
Good luck0 -
I printed off the nitty gritty letter from their website and took it to the doctors this morning just as they opened the door. I was in luck. Lovely lady Doctor had a look for me and yes she gave me a prescription for the nitty griity comb.:T So that was a good result. She did not know about it being available neither did the pharmasist.0

My DD off to secondary school in September and I too am hoping that's the end of head lice.
My DD avoided nits for years, I thought it was down to the daily spray with tea-tree oil but they got her in the end. Once she even caught them on the first day of term after the school holidays.
I have spent lots of money on natural products & oils that are supposed to prevent infestation and the battery operated comb that zaps them but not one of them worked. The battery comb is only really suitable for very short hair. During a really bad period where she was continually infected despite my efforts I made the phone calls to the parents of the girls on her table in school. 2 of the mums of the girls who sat opposite her on the table got back to me to say they were clear and thanks for the warning, luckily I knew them well and they took no offence. The Mother of the girl she sat next to never mentioned again but my DD stayed clear after that weekend. Touch wood we have been free of them ever since.
I wouldn't hesitate in doing the same again if my DD was continually infected. I know many parents openly say they don't bother treating as they will just catch them again but I don't think that's good enough. My DD hair is waist length and it takes all evening to comb through etc and I have even cancelled nights out to do it because I couldn't leave the blighters in her hair a moment longer than necessary.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

No offence, but nits don't do the head much good either!
I was just passing on a solution that's commonly used in Australia - it's also 'money saving' compared to some of the incredibly expensive products available over the counter.
From experience, the kids heads felt a darn sight better after treatment than they did before.
btw... of course, I'm not talking about something like a dettol floor cleaner... I'm talking about the stuff you dab on cuts... I feel that maybe I should make that clear!don't blow out other people's candles to make your own burn brighter...0 -

People seem to try so many differnt methods which don't work that they end up giving up,and just accept it as part of being a kid!!
Before I discovered the nitty gritty comb I was going through all three kids heads hair by hair for hours every evening for weeks it was ridiculous.0
