Have you been to the doctors yet as you can get a perscription for this? Suggest the whole family goes through the treatment.
The comb seems only to get rid of the nits and not the eggs.
I got rid of the eggs too, maybe it makes a difference how long and thorough you are? In fact, I thought I heard that it was the treatments that didn't remove the eggs, as they are designed to kill the lice not the eggs?0 -

I'm with you on that.... the treatment I bought didnt kill the eggs, combing with conditioner gets them tho.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
I found combing with conditioner only got rid of the lice, not the eggs especially the brownish ones near to the scalp which are supposed to have the lice growing in them. The only way I could get rid of these eggs which seemed to be glued on was to actually pick them out with my nails, sliding the egg all the way down to the bottom of the hair. Working through all the hair bit by bit to make sure you dont miss any. I stuck a DVD on so they sat still for an hour or so!!
Any nit comb I tried made my girls cry, maybe I wasnt using the right one or doing it right.
I remember reading that if you were getting reinfected quickly it was not likely from school etc, more likely that all the eggs hadnt been got out the first time.0 -
Another fan of the nitty gritty comb here too.
I do DS in the bath 2 times a week - it's very quick to do. He has fine hair, so I wet it, give him a toy to play with, and run the comb through at different angles. I then put tea tree oil in his shampoo and let it sit before rinsing.
I've tried to alter my mindset about nits since he caught them; every child seems to catch them eventually! The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
memories!!!
My three daughters all had long hair and I spent hours just coming through their hair. Best thing i bought was the leave in conditioner from the body shop, it saved having to wash it again.
No short cuts with nits, you just have to keep combing through.2013

I have a nit routine, my kids suffered with them terribly for year... but touch wood we've been nit free for over 12 months my kids are 7 and 9 so still well in the nit zone and i know thier school is infested as letters come home on almost a weekly basis.
Here's what i do.
EVERYTIME i give the kids a bath i wash thier hair, then i apply TONS of conditioner (just a cheap one kids have such fine hair and expensive on is a waste), then while the conditioner is still on i run the nit comb though there hair checking for lice and eggs, occasionally i find one or two at which point i rinse them off under the sink and give both kids and EXTRA good going over to make sure i get them all (then i usually do myself as well just incase)
Basically because im de-nitting them twice a week the nits/lice never have chance to get a foothold, doing it every bathtime is a pain in the neck but once you get into the habit it becomes second nature. The only time my kids get lice now is when i get out of my routine and skip the combing for some reason, so basically i make sure i NEVER miss it.
I used to get really upset about it too.. i used to have long hair and i cut it really short because i was that fed up on catching them myself, it took along time before stopped freaking out every time they caught them.
what really annoys me is the parents that just don't care everytime i noticed my kids had anything i used to tell the teachers, but after years of doing it i've given up, basically because the teachers have told me there are at least 2 kids in EVERY class who have perma-lice and thier parents don't care and don't treat it.
I sware it's bordering on crualty lice are horrid itchy things i can't understand any parent who would let thier child suffer like that, without attempting to clear it up ... it's horrid for thier own child and it just means it keeps on getting passed around.
The important thing is not to stress about it lice is a normal part of growing up, i've never known a kid NOT to get them 100 times.. just get into a routine wash, conditioner, comb EVERY bathtime and trust me it will be a problem of the past.0 -
we bought as robicomb which has a zapper thing aswell as being a nit comb, so kills them off when it finds them. Noth the easiet thing to use on a baby, though.
Check your bedding etc is free from eggs, and go over your DD's hair with the robicomb every day after nursery to keep them at bay and stop them transferring to your baby.
Make it a fun challenge to try to find any, with a prize or sticker for finding a nit or an egg - that will be more fun for them than being grabbed and checked every day.
On the plus side for you it will be easier to see eggs in darker hair.
If your DS's hair is very thick a hairdresser would thin it out for you without shaving it all off.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Same here. I was horrified when I first saw nits in my girls hair. Being very blond they were easy to see!!
Leave in conditioner worked a treat, along with tea tree oil and daily use of a nit comb. Oh, and their head mistress at the time had no problem sending out letters to all the parents when an infestation had occurred, as unless it is tackled properly with all members of the family in the school it is very difficult to control.

I must admit i never had nits as a child but caught them off my kids as an adult. but when i was younger the nit nurse used to come into schools. they now say its not viable as they miss some kids as the head lice run off when looking through hair. What a load of crap has anyone ever seen a head lie run cos i havent. It would be worth having them in schools again as they would be able to point out the ones who is riddled with them. Although i once rang a school nurse and she said it was classed as abuse to check through kids hair. But nurses can change babies nappiesRoll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(
