  • Its better to use a headset. That way you don't hear all the background noise, distortion, and echo's.

you can get good quality headsets rather cheap of the likes of ebay and amazon :)

I just had a 20 min conversation to itunes in america using it! The softwares saved me so much trouble yey!

How much do you reckon you need to pay for a decent headset? On Amazon they go from about £9 to £40 - would a £15 one be good enough or would it be worth paying £25-ish?
  • I would get a Voip usb phone as then at least i don't feel like i'm working in a call center lol

Search for Plantronics .90 on ebay :) That should be your answer.

Around £20 for one of the best headsets around imo!

  • Bluetooth headsets are a no go as far as I am aware, and even if they were available I suspect the quality wouldn't be as good as your standard wire.

The problem with the withholding number, is that you are in fact calling through a pstn exchange meaning even if you DID have a caller ID, it would be lost throught the call.

Voipbuster are soon to introduce IP assigned caller ID's, but until then I am afraid theres no way this can be avoided. Get your friend to ring BT and tell them to take the bar off, then you can call!

Your other option is to unfortunately pay for Skype Out/In and then you will have a Skype phone number which you can use to call people. Sipgate is of course your other option!

    Good luck.

I think you find they are blocking the port you need , 5060, to let this work :(

  • From the voipbuster FAQs........

I have an external firewall .. which ports need to be opened on the firewall in order for the voipbuster application to work?

The following Destination ports need to be allowed on your firewall:
    UDP 5060
    UDP 11112
    UDP 10300 - 10311
    UDP 6901 - 6920

I tried this on my work laptop and it worked fine. (changes were made in my third party firewall software not in windows so not sure how it will work for you).
  • 2 things;

    1) it looks like voipbuster has upped the fee from 1 EURO to 5EURO (or am I missing something)

    2) I downloaded X-lite and installed it and then went to the walkthrough config on the sipgate site but the 2 X-lites (they have screenshots of 1 for the purpose of the walkthrough) look very different and the Xlite i have does not seem to have a 'menu' button etc or anything else to let me configure it. Help anyone?

    Best
