Mine had a problem with the brushes too. I got it fixed think it was £75. The repair man said as our machine was an old fashion model without digital display it was more likely to last longer than the newer models where lots more can go wrong. He said they dont make them like this anymore and ours was a cheap HotPoint (11 years old). Not had a problem since.

I asked on the IN my home board these are the replies I got

Oh I don't know what to do right now. I could get it repaired for god knows how much depending on what's wrong with it (MIL's fella could only guess.).... or use the computer grant (The £140 that doesn't have to be used on a computer) to buy a new cheap one... or just buy a new decent one on the card.... gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :wall:

Freecycle worth a try - had years of getting rid of washing machines - must have chosen alternate no wachine machine, wachine machine rentals subconciously... lots of people can't be ars^d to sell them if getting a fitted kitchen+appliances or if in rental and moving often only keep them a year until shared house splits up.... I think I was a student too long :rotfl:

well, motor brushes isn't a huge job labour or parts wise - probably the 30 minute call out fee plus the parts cost?

I'm just worried about the cost. Especially as for a while now it's always leaked slightly out of the door and left a little puddle on the floor at the bottom.... can see £'s disappearing before my eyes..

personally, I'd be willing to take a punt on the £109 machine - I guess it's in the lap of the gods how long it would last, but I bought mine when I moved here 4 years ago from the guy who has always fixed my washer driers at my old place. It was £115 and is just a basic wasing machine. Other than a piece of underwiring that went too far and I couldn't retrieve (whoops) it's worked perfectly for 4 years.

The previous owner was an old lady who was convinced it kept getting stuck. The repair guy tried to explain that as it was a cold fill there was a gap of time when it was heating the water but she wouldn't have it and said it was stuck and bought a new one!
