You have no idea how interesting I find this thread. I have had a hand in some of the formulations discussed so it makes fascinating, sometimes a bit painful, reading.

I thought I would share one fact with you all. L'Oreal spends 30% of its turnover on above the line advertising. The other big name brands must do much the same. When you buy a pot of cream from a company like that a big chunk of what you pay goes to fund flogging you the next one.

Just something to bear in mind.
Thank you beautyscientist! I read your review of the Aldi Creams (link on the Siana thread), and was just wondering if you think spf4 is a high enough protection for a day cream- I got the impression you did? It's just that I always thought it should be at least spf15:confused:

So do tell! What formulations have you worked on then, and why have you sometimes found the thread painful reading?:D

I'm surprised ALL face creams don't have SPF15 in the now.

I use Liz Earle, I must see if it does, I just assumed it did.

I used an Amber Solaire face cream (SPF30) on holiday & I got spots, I REALLY HOPE Liz Earles has SPF in it, because I don't want to use anything else.

I read on another thread that Liz's moisturisers don't have any spf in them. The poster said she contacted them to ask about it, and they said they never put any in because of the need to apply sunscreen frequently, and they recommended a separate sunscreen to put on top of the moisturiser!

I just checked the website:mad:

Thats a load of bull as far as I'm concerned.

They reason they don't put it in is to sell you another product:mad:

I'm really annoyed with them about that

    Can you tell:o

L'Oreal cosmetics are overpriced in my opinion, their make up is so expensive, I was looking at their new lipppies yesterday (Infallible?), they are very close to MAC and Clinique in price, you can get advice on colours at both of these counters. I have not tried any of their skincare so can't comment.

Just found out the Laura Mercier powder has an SPF of 15, I've been toying with trying her powder for a while anyway, as its susposed to be the best:D

Apart from fakebay is there anywhere I can get it a bit cheaper or with a GWP or ANYTHING:D

...although funnily enough, I was sitting out in the blazing sun for 2 hours on Saturday without any sunscreen (I know, I know...) and got sunburned to a crisp all over my exposed arms and upper chest... but nothing on my face and neck at all. The only product I was wearing on my face and neck at the time was Skin Repair moisturiser  So although it doesn't have an official SPF, I swear it does something.

I don't know how true this is, but my beautician once asked me when I was in for a facial if I used foundation every day. I said yes and prepared myself for a dressing down but then she said it was probably the best thing I could do as it forms an opaque barrier against UV light! - and my skin was in great condition.

However, I do have a penchant for big floppy hats and for sitting in the shade, so that might explain some of it!
