Thanks Butternut. I was thinking about doing the OCM as well. What oil did you use to go with the caster oil? Some people seem to use olive and others sunflower- I'm not sure which would be best.
Hi, I actually was doing it with just sunflower oil, because I ordered some castor oil off the internet & it hadn't arrived. I've got it now, and was thinking of using sunflower as it seems lighter. Although olive oil has good properties for the skin, too.I think I might use a combination of the two, as I have both in my storecupboard. I've also got Jojoba and wheatgerm oil, which seem more luxurious (& more expensive to buy) so I might keep them to make face creams.
    I LOVE this thread.:D :D:D

  • Hi, i wonder if anyone has any recommendations for long lasting lipsticks? do they work, are they drying on your lips?

i have never tried them as i have already got dry lips and tend to use vaseline on them (although that doesn't seem to be such a good idea from what i've read on here:o ) and i don't think anyone has mentioned them yet so any info gratefully received;)

so what concealer do you use with the revlon colorstay foundation ?

Glad you asked this StompingOgre as I was writing a post about the Dermacolor concealer palette as recommended by Angel81.

I'll keep it short as I've written this three times only to have the system log me out and lose it:mad:

The palette contains 16 shades, each the size of a five pence piece and you can blend these to get the exact colour on the back of your hand. For under the eye, Angel81 recommends mixing it with a little foundation to thin it down. If you set it with some translucent loose powder it lasts all day :T . There's a number of palettes to choose from so I picked the No.4 option which contains colours suited to Caucasian skin tones.

It's available from http://www.show-bizcentre.com/ but although they say it should get to you in 2/3 days - that's a tad optimistic, mine took a week - but it is shipped from Holland.

    I hope this helps.

Here's the complete list of all the products recommended on that programme (from LK Today website):

Beauty journalist Vishaka Read presents ten of her favourite products that won;t cost the earth and will still keep you looking fabulous.
Waitrose organic face cream £4.99, Waitrose
    E.L.F (www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) eyeliner £1.50
This popular US beauty brand has recently branched out into the UK offering everything from nail varnishes to eye shadows, online, for only £1.50. E.L.F has low overhead costs, little advertising and minimalist packaging which means that the consumer only pays for the makeup itself. Good quality ingredients can be expensive but buying them in huge quantities allows E.L.F to get them for less.
Andrew Barton Shiny happy hair Gloss Boss Hair Serum £4.95
Andrew Barton, resident hairdresser on Style Challenge and Ten Years Younger, launched his Shiny Happy Hair range in February 2008. Lots of in-demand hair stylists do their own ranges at really affordable price. They have years of experience in dealing with difficult hair so their ranges are often born out of real problems.
    Barbara Daly concealer £3.50, Tesco
Available at larger Tesco stores, this product is dubbed as one of the best and cheapest concealers on the market. The concealer offers excellent coverage and its creamy texture makes it really easy to blend and perfect for the undereye area and blemishes.
    Savlon £3.89, All good chemists
You may just think of it as a product for your medicine cabinet but as a skin healing cream, it can be used to clear up problem skin. Use over the T-zone if you're suffering from blackheads and blocked skin pores. It's also great if you've had too much sun.
Bourjois mini Volume Glamour Ultra mascara £3.50, Boots
Bourjois is a sister range to Chanel and offers quality make up at a fraction of the cost. Makeup such as mascara and nail varnish hava a short lifespan so it's better to buy small and use it all up rather than get a big product and have to throw half away.
    Natural bristle brush £4.99 www.betterware.co.uk
A much more effective way of combating cellulite is to use a body brush, daily, in a vigorous fashion. Look for a natural bristle brush that doesn't scratch the skin, but is firm enough to give your skin a pummelling.
Barry M, nail paints £2.95 and lip colours £4.25, Superdrug
If you're experimenting this months hottest nail colour or the seasons must have lip shadeopt for ranges who always have the hottest new colours at low prices.
Vaseline intensive care body cream £2.49, All good chemists
Mix with a bit of foundation for a tinted moisturiser.
Herbal essences shampoo £1.80, All good chemists
Spend money on your conditioner and save on your shampoo.

I'm using the Savlon now and find it better than stuff my GP prescribed! I bought mine in Poundland though, much better than £3.89 :j

Here's what Angel81uk said on one of her posts (she's a make-up artist):

'Lipstick - Hmmm this one is a little tougher as different people expect different things from a lipstick. The top and bottom of it is you can't have super long lasting and moisturising all in one package. The big brands try to tell us you can and tempt us in to buying the latest and greatest, but in reality they're always a big disappointment. So I always go for moisturising and colour the lips in with a matching lip pencil first. That way when the lipstick wears off you've still got some colour underneath. As for which brand it's really down to personal choice. But personally I think good all rounders are Boots 17 and Rimmel.'
  • I'm one of those people who do spend a lot on some products, but only if I find them to be the best. These are relatively cheap, but I can't find better:

:p Forget YSL's Touche Eclat - I think No 7's 'Radiant Touch' is much better - Touche Eclat doesn't give very much coverage - it just highlights. No7's highlights and conceals so as well as using it on dark areas, it's great for spots/imperfections (like a liquid skin!)

:pSt Ives' Apricot Blemish Control Facial Scrub is THE best scrub around. Sometimes I use rock salt & olive oil, but mostly due to laziness I just bung this all over. Especially effective if you get those 'exfoliating gloves' in Tesco for a pound or so (then I get my boyfriend to scrub me down...super lazy!)

:pSuperdrug's Vitamin E 12 hour moisturising cream with SPF 15 is WAY cheaper than other facial moisturisers with SPF 15, and the tub lasts ages. Smells great as well. All for around £2!

:p If like me you've got rosy skin/rosacea, then No7 Colour Calming Make-Up Base is great. Just like the Chanel original, it's a green tint that I put on top of moisturiser (or sometimes mixed in) on my rosy skin and the green neutralises the red. You can get in 3For2 offers all the time.

:pTime Delay Refining Toning Water is so good!! Leaves everything soft and just feels like water.

    :pRimmel Eye Kohl Pencils.

:p A big pot of Astral moisturiser is amazing. I use it for everything - all over body, night cream and best all, as a cream cleanser to take all my make up off. My Mum's 65 and she's been using it every day since she was 20 - she's got the softest taughtest skin (and she's a product cynic, so if she trusts it...!)

:pYves Rocher the french company (you can get in France or on the web/mail order) do a brilliant pale pink kohl for £1 which i put on the inside corner of my eyes and blend in to make them look perky. They also have great perfumes (try the bamboo one) which they make from real plant extracts.

:pSudacrem isn't just for nappy rash - works great as a night cream/mask - wash off the remnants in the morning. Soft as a baby's bum and great for spots.

:pJohnson and Johnson's Baby Shampoo is beyond great! And you know it's good for your hair as it's safe for babies too! Use this to get healthy, naturally soft hair, and then use a good conditioner (cheapest & best for me = Tresemme, more expensive = Redken)

:p If you've got spots on your back/body, put Dettol in your bath! As it explains on the packaging, it's an antiseptic and when diluted perfectly safe to use.

:p Can't remember the name of it - but that lipstick sealant stuff is great. Put on top of a moisturising lipstick et voila!

:oArgh! Sorry if my stupidly long post is annoying. I'm a first timer and got rather overexcited! xxx
  • I don't think you can get a really good cheap mascara - if you just want something that does the trick Maybelline's Great Lash works fine. If you want lengthening/volume, you really can't beat Lancome. But don't buy Lancome mascara from Superdrug on offers!!! I did and it dried out in 2 months - I think they keep it for ages under the hot lights...sob.

Lipcote is the stuff I think you mean and it works as a sealant for lipstick.

Just wanted to give a big thumbs up to Boots Botanics Organic Super Balm which is fantastic for dry cuticles! Thanks to Babe1 for the recommendation. :T I have a problem with dry, tough cuticles which tend to split easily, and also tend to get hang nails. I've only used this product twice at night-time only, and there is an immediate improvement in the look and feel of my cuticles. I think it's a general balm which can be used on any dry areas, (similar to Liz Earle Superbalm I imagine) but I can certainly highly recommend it for cuticles.
  • I'm using Max Factor's Masterpiece at the moment (another money off coupon in my Bounty pack)

at the moment im using Rimmel Volume extend, it was in a clearence basket at the chemist lol. its verygood at doing the job of making lashes look gorgeous but it hasnt got much mascara in, its double ended so you only get hallf of each colour if you think about it. worth the 3.99 that i paid but not the full price which i think is 6.99. (dont quote me on that as im not definatly sure on full price).

lilmisskitkat, what is this bounty pack your talking about? sounds good whatever it is and how do i get one? lol :D i spend loads on make up, (mainly eyeshadow) and money off would be a real treat
freebies so far... horlicks chocolate malt, comfort samples
    Trails done.... blackhead face mask
Success with compaints... £2.50 from Cadburys
