My mother and I have a family event that we need to travel to by train and stay in a hotel for two nights. I've just made the booking and i'm really pleased though I did slip up a little!

I got two nights in a Novotel, with breakfast both mornings, two people sharing the room all for £127, I really can't complain at £31.75 B&B per night :j The bit I slipped up on was forgetting to use TCB and they had a special offer on of 12.12% cashback only available until to-morrow :o

Similiar good results with train tickets and managed to get the 25% offer (was suprised there were tickets left) and this time managed to remember to use TCB!

Can you cancel the hotel and re-book through TCB? As long as there are no penalties..

Hi there Froggy, thanks for that but unfortunately in order to get the good deal I did it had to be paid up front and no refund on cancellation. Hey ho though, I'm trying to make myself feel better for getting such a good deal in the first place.

Well after planning a much deserved lie-in today until 9am I woke up at 5.15:eek: I dozed off and on for a little while then put light on at 6.30 and now in bed with cup of tea. Don't think there is much chance of going back to sleep so I'm going to get up in a mo. On the one hand it's a good thing as I've lots to do today but still miffed as felt I needed the sleep and I'm going out tonight and have to be up at 7 in the morning which in my book is not what Sundays are for!

Got lots to update on here but don't have all the details to hand so I'll just make a reminder list here and update when I get a chance

  • I feel aggrieved too! fell asleep on the sofa again last night and woke up before 6. Dragged myself to bed upstairs coz its saturday and i should be inbed....instead kids are all up by 7, DH up and gone out to work so made his brekkie and lunch, sent off a reference that someone needed today, and now back in bed for a cuppa tea, toast and some me time - before kids football at 10 and voluntary work for the rest of the day - I used to love weekends!!!
  • Hi there PHMTS

Oh blimey, not good, do you fall asleep on the settee often? Glad you're in bed now enjoying your brekkies and also me you time though sounds very little chance of you getting any more sleep ;)

    Have a good day

  • Well I've had a lovely shower, hair washed (though not dried yet) makeup on, washing all done and now out to dry. Time for some brekkies I think.

Going out for lunch today with a friend and got another 25% off voucher for the place I like and went to a couple of weeks ago.

I've got to time everything carefully this morning as I need to call Green Flag out as got a flat battery after car standing all week not used and in icy weather so I need to call just at the right time to give them enough time to do it, me get some petrol then pick friend up and give car a run to charge battery back up. The lunch place is about 10 miles away so the 20 mile round trip should do it.

I'm also not staying at my house tonight so need to get overnight bag sorted too

  • Well I decided to bite the bullet this week and cancel my monthly work share option. I put £250 per month into it (taken from salary before tax) and the balance stood at £4500. I worked out that by the time it had ended I would have paid a total of £9000 into it but the share price has fallen so much that I could by the £9000's worth for £5,500 at todays share price IYSWIM.

So, I've cancelled the option and the £4500 should be back with me within the week. I have then bought £4500 of the shares back at todays prices (did the transaction yesterday, not today of course as it's Saturday). The other £1000 I have bought with the hopes of there being a short term spike which I don't think is not out of the question - said very confidently lol, if things went to plan I would keep the £1000 worth to trade with

This of course also means that I will have the £250 per month back in my salary though of course it will be a wee bit less as it will have been taxed so this will help the monthly cashflow and plans; I can always sign back up to next years share options if I want to

Keep your fingers crossed for me :o

Well I posted this 5th November 2011 and have an update, some of it good news, and some of it falls into the 'could do better' camp :o

I was never entirely comfortable with this purchase as I broke a rule I had set myself which was to buy in tranches and not throw the whole lot in at once. The other problem was that within a week of buying them the price fell by 21%

So I promised myself that as soon as they broke even I would sell them, and that is what I did last week

I made a small profit of £151.01 so the good news is that I stuck to my promise to sell and made a small profit

The 'could do better' things is that I dithered about on the day as I also have a rule now to sell in tranches but because of being uncomfortable with the original purchase I sold them all and then the price continued to rise... So I missed out on a potential profit of £619.77 instead of £151.01; that said I'm pleased with the profit and normally you have to be very lucky to sell at the peak of a current trading range. I'm also pleased to have the money back in my account again and will still have no hesitation buying some more (in tranches!) should the opportunity arise

  • I've just had a small bonus paid in shares; it only totals £216 so I'm going to keep the shares and see where they go. I'm not 'desperate' for the £216 and the £216 is only what they are worth today and have fallen somewhat from when the bonus was historically agreed as was £375

  • Well I made my first OP of the year on Friday :j

I've sent £500 and hope to send some more before my next pay day. I've also sent £150 to the stooze credit card so the balance currently stands at £3300 so I'm well on track to get to my target of £3000 by March when I will re-schedule it.

I've also paid parents back this months installment of £300, I don't have my figures to hand but think this leaves me around the £2300 mark outstanding but I will update the figure later in the week if I have remembered incorrectly
