  • Yay, good news, the tax cheque was taken out of my account today. I don't think there are many occassions when people are happy at tax cheques being paid out of their accounts but this is one of them and I am happy! Surely this means the end is nigh for my little saga.

I'm hoping that there is now enough time between now and this months pay day for them to re-adjust my tax code AND pay me the refund of £700+ on this months pay too ?????????????????????

  • It's that time of year again when I have to consider what extra benefits I want as part of my salary for next year.

I decided to re-new the same things as I had last year which is
    • critical illness cover
    • life assurance
    • personal accident insurance
They all come with a decent discount so the total monthly amount is £50.55 and this is taken from my salary before it is taxed so that is good too

  • So, I've cancelled the option and the £4500 should be back with me within the week. I have then bought £4500 of the shares back at todays prices (did the transaction yesterday, not today of course as it's Saturday). The other £1000 I have bought with the hopes of there being a short term spike which I don't think is not out of the question - said very confidently lol, if things went to plan I would keep the £1000 worth to trade with

This of course also means that I will have the £250 per month back in my salary though of course it will be a wee bit less as it will have been taxed so this will help the monthly cashflow and plans; I can always sign back up to next years share options if I want to

Keep your fingers crossed for me :o

Well I got the cheque for £4500 today plus a nominal interest of £11.51!

I'll get that paid into my account to-morrow and thank goodness for that too as things are verrry tight this month

I've also renewed my car insurance renewal docs today which means that I can shop around properly now. The renewal date is not until the 4th Dec which is a week or so later than I thought

  • Well I'm having the tightest month I've had for a very long time! Somehow managed to miscalculate a wee bit. However, that is not really the problem, yes folks, I'm going to mention that tax man again....

The promised refund did not arrive and to add insult to injury they also took the monthly installment of c£105. This of course meant they also didn't change my tax code so I still didn't get my real pay

To try and manage I have only overpaid the mortgage by £250 which I really annoyed about but will make back up when the money comes through

I've still not got round to getting the care insurance renewed, it's also in for an MOT today and I suspect it needs a few things doing so I'll have to wait and see what the bill is and I'll have to pay that in cash as it's not a large chain type garage and that is what they prefer which is fine by me.

I've also had a letter about renewing my photodriving licence so that will be another £20 to pay out

I haven't even worked out how much I have spare this month but i'll be suprsied if it is much more than zero.

Not been in this position before and don't like it :o

Hope you are all doing much better

  • Just managed to find a small bit of good news, the repayment part of my mortgage has just dropped below the £80k for the first time, lovely to see it start with a 7 even if it is 79:j

  • Ok, so the bill is in for my car £180 for the MOT, Service and a couple of small repairs. I wished it the bill hadn't come in this month but it could have been far worse so I guess all in all I'm pleased with that.

I also spoke to tax office yesterday, they said my new tax code was issued this week so fingers crossed that next pay day means FULL pay and the refund of £836

The share option that I cancelled last month for £250 was also paid in error this month so I've chased that up and been told it will be refunded within 4-6 weeks which I'm really not pleased about but it seems there is nothing I can do about it

Still not renewed my car insurance, I MUST get it done this weekend :o

  • I sat down this afternoon with the intent of finally getting around to sorting out my car insurance (which also includes Green Flag cover) and contents insurance as I've received the renewal for that today too

I've been on a couple of hours now and don't feel I'm that much further forward, it always seems to take a lot of time to sort through quotes and on-line offers then cross reference them with cashback sites :o

So far I have sorted the breakdown cover and I've done this separately this year rather than as part of the insurance cover. I've gone with Green Flag again who I have been with for many years now and have always been smashing in every way when I've used them

I've taken the Resuce and Recovery Plus package which cost £86.92, this included a 10% discount for doing on-line, plus I should get £25.75 cashback and I've paid via Amex so that should get a 1.4% cashback too

Right, one down, two to go!

  • So after three different 'browsing' sessions for car insurance would you believe I hae ended up renewing with the same company :o

After working out all the various permutations of cashback etc the closest one was about £2 cheaper than my renewal quote and to me that's just not worth the hassle involved of new paperwork, sending proof of no claims etc so I have just done the renewal

I've paid in full, they didn't take Amex though so no cashback. I used my Barclaycard instead so a few points there but they are so measly these days they are hardly worth the bother.

That reminds me, I must swap my standby credit card from Barclaycard back to my Tesco one for those places that don't take Amex. The points build up better and I've got a bit of Christmas shopping to do this week too!

  • Just had a nice suprise and remembered that I don't pay service charges at home for November and December. This is a nice suprise on two fronts as this means no service charges for the BTL as well :D

  • Hi Abouttimetoo,

I have just read your whole diary and what a frustrating time you have had with the taxman. I have had an issue with them in the past and it certainly seems one sided - you screw up, you have to pay ASAP, they screw up (and continue to do so) and they pay eventually. What a dreadful situation you have worked through.

I truly hope come your December salary run, that this is fixed and you get your straightforward £.

I will pop in and see now things move on, as a few months of not having this frustration will be such a big relief to you

    Best wishes Tilly
