Even moreso useful though is a number, the voice mail to which can be recieved to an email address as a wave attachment.

It's worth having a SIPgate account and a uk geographical number associated with it for this feature alone.

    Couldn't agree more ....

I bought myself a USB telephone on ebay for 99p ( plus the usual ebay charge avoidance procedure of 7.99 postage ! ) .... plugged it in ( i'm on XP ) ... no drivers required ... works perfectly with XLite phone software ( as described in the original post ) ....

Tip ... if using the XLite phone software, go to Advanced System Settings -> Audio Settings -> Silence Settings and set Transmit Silence to YES ... the default is NO .... Before I changed this setting, some speech was being lost after moments of silence ... with this set to YES ... problem solved.

Can anyone suggest away I can sign up for a SIP geographic number? I usually live in the UK but am overseas for the next month or so and therefore can not get a geographic number. I was going to ask a friend to do it for me in the UK but they all seem to be on AOL and thus outside the UK IP address range.

    Thanks

As I mentioned previously, by using a proxy.

Find a UK proxy from http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html and set this in your browser, many browsers (Avant for example) have an easy option to switch between proxies. Once set you can get a UK number.

Or PM with details and I'll start the initial setup off for you.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Hi, just a quick question about the voice mail thing: Is it possible to record your own message that people hear if you are not at the phone?

I have still not been able to set up Xlite with voipbuster account. I have paid €2 to voipbuster (€1 didn't seem to work, although it could have been I hadn't waited for their system to register the first €1).

With voipbuster software I now have 'unlimited' free calls to landlines in several countries. The voipbuster software isn't as good as xlite and I would therefore like to configure xlite with voipbuster account.

Xlite works fine with sipgate (so it isn't a firewall issue) but you have to pay for the calls, hence the requirement to set up voipbuster (with xlite).

I have followed all the previous instructions in this thread without success. I believe other users are also struggling to do the same. If someone has worked it out can you let us know how it's done.

Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.

I'm probably being very daft, but I cannot for the life of me work out where to download x-lite from on their site. I have registered and activated my account etc... I have also searched their 'knowledge base'.

Would someone kindly point me in the right direction?

    Great Find Thanks.

Do this till you get a more memorable number.

Why not come back and tell us what number you got (If it's a good one) without the area code.
