i am having problems configuring x-lite

the phone display says login failed contact network admin

when i start it up it flashes a msg about cone restriction nat firewall

    can anyone help please

It might be a problem with a router, and some ports may need forwarding, however I have never had to do this with either of my routers.

It could be something in the setup.

The LinkSys PAP2 comes with a CD with documentation on, but is useless as it only tell you where to plug the phone in to and the PAP2 into as router.

You can however download the Sipura ATA documentation from: https://www.sipura.com/Documents/SipuraSPAUserGuidev2.0.9.pdf which is more or less the same. If you need any further help if you do decide to buy this device or a Sipura then just ask.

I purchased mine from Broadbandbuyer, the power supply unit comes with an interchangeable Schuko/UK plug. You may also want to buy the US Plug to BT Socket Adaptor w/Ring Capacitor, this allows you to connect UK phones to the device that have the BABT plug on, it is possible to connect UK phones using a RJ11 lead however some UK phones don't ring as due to not having the ringing circuit and require the ring capacitor, you could however easily butcher an RJ11 lead and connect it to a BABT master socket which will do the same job.

    thanks again bextech
just looked at the linksys as i already have a linksys wireless router with built in 4 port switch so i will probably stick with the same manufacturer

as an ex techy nerd ( unix/solaris sys admin for more years than i am prepared to admit to ) i am just starting to get to look at the voip stuff as i am moving to spain but i can feel myself getting sucked back into the old techy nerd ways after spending 4 years away from it :-)

i think the only way to save myself is to wear a condom when i am on here :-)

I also have a LinkSys router.

I have been planning on moving to Spain for many years, unfortunately haven't got there yet. Hopefully it will happen.

As the PSU has an interchangeable plug that saves a little hassle.

I currently have SipDiscount on line 1 and Sipgate on line 2 (for my incoming UK number).

I also have a USA number (for free) that rings my Sipgate number - http://phone.ipkall.com/ipphone/

just when i thought i understood voip you have confused me again :-)
so what is the difference between sipgate and sipdiscount ?
USA number that is good all i need now is to find the spanish equivalent

i think i am going to buy the linksys all in 1 box to make life simple rather thatn having 2 boxes
when i first get to spain i will be staying in an american motorhome on a camp-site and will be getting my internet connection through wireless and i am not sure yet how fast it will be so i may not be able to use all of the features
i just bought a hp wireless printer fax copier and it's sounds as though outgoing faxes may be a problem i read a review on the broadband buyer web site saying only a 20% success rate on a 512k line have you had any experience of this

Sipgate is just another provider of VoIP.

Sipdiscount doesn't at the moment provide an incoming number, though I am sure in time they will, as their sister companies VoIP Cheap now offer incoming number however you can't use that with an ATA yet, VoIP Buster offer an incoming number (they did, not sure if they do again) but that is an 0845 number.

I no longer have a fixed landline, I have just recently dropped my BT landline, my broadband is via Telewest. So I use my Sipgate service for people to ring me on, although I have several Sipgate numbers for various area codes, I am only using one on the ATA (you can only have two accounts), with Sipgate you can choose any area code you like. Having Sipgate is good as they don't charge a monthly fee and you get a UK incoming number, which then means when you move to Spain or anywhere for that matter people in the UK can call you just as if you are still in the UK therefore if they have free evening and weekend calls they can call you free or with 18866 or 1899 call you for 3 pence per call.

I think fax is a bit hit and miss, I haven't tried that myself yet, but I did try a Sky Digibox which is even more of a problem and have yet to get that to work.

  • as i will no longer need my fixed line in england can i transfer my bt landline number to sipgate ?
i have just seen a cordless VOIP phone that works via wireless
does this mean that i can use it like a mobile as long as there is a wireless access point available at airports stations etc etc ??
how the hell does that work regards charging for outgoing calls ??
