Hi all,
At the request of Martin, I am looking into the Redten situation.
As I understand it many of you are still without internet and are unable to get MAC codes (though I haven't quite got to the end of the mammoth thread).
We will be getting in touch with Redten, Ofcom, V12finance and Trading Standards to try and find the best way forward, out of the situation.
It's worth pointing out that as this isn't a deal we've ever recommended it makes it a lot harder to intervene as we have far less muscle than if we had. Plus with the current climate and the credit crunch biting it,s very busy at MSE Towers at the moment and resources are limited. However we'll do our best
If you could summarise what the latest situation is it would be very helpful. Plus let me know if you've had any successes in cancelling your contract or in contacting the company. Also if anyone has a copy of the original finance contract please PM me.
Many Thanks
MSE Archna

Its not being without internet for us its being without the internet we are paying for (ie uncapped/unlimited yet with a 15GB allowance imposed upon us) also the lies and rubbish we are getting told from the various companies involved letters and emails ignored, phones just ringing and ringing etc etc!!:mad: Deadten Victim - Seeking Justice at Any Price :mad:0

I Must say the offer was posted on your site recommended or not it was posted.... So it was recommended on this site I guess.0 -

Daftbint I do tend to agree with your comments however, I do also fully understand MSE Archna's point, in that it wasn't actually recommended by MSE, it was a thread that someone started (it could even have been by RT themselves!)
We're aware that the forum is unregulated (Or meant to be) so we can't blame MSE for what gets posted on here.
If it's any help, I too read the original post before I ordered this service in Nov '06

Just to clarify, in fact there was some 30 threads started by MSE users in various boards regarding this offer and they are all now merged into the one thread. If you read the start of the thread you will also find quite a few warnings from MSE users.0 -

Briefly redten started out in November 2006 offering unlimited broadband of 8mb speed with free up grade to 24mbspeed when avaialable, minimum price of 19.99 per month. if you took out the 3 year contract you got a free PC package thrown in.
They linked you to V12 finance to its subsiduary cloderetailfinance to pay a loan of 3 years worth of broadband to ensure that redten had the capital to start.
clode pauid redten upfront.
all went well until the watford fiasco and redten lost the access to watfords cheap PCs and not enough people had signed up to make substantial profits.
Shariz Jessa, the owner, stood down as director so he could mortgage the whole of redten to online distribution in July 2007. He owns both.
The free PC became then a PC and broadband package for anyone joining.
On the 10.3.2008 we all got our connection barred by BT and could not access the internet because redten had not paid their invoices.
We were paper slammed into NJP Services another ISP on the 11.3.2008 without our knowledge and got back online on the 19.3.2008 to find the deal had changed to a limited service of 2mb cap data transfer and the 5mb and then 15mb.
Many of us had our service capped on the 25.3.2008 cause we had gone over limit of 5mb and did not get re-connected until the 3.4.2008.
Both NJP and redten have refused to give us a mac code although we have written to them re their breach of contract.
OFCOM ar on their case and made a news announcement at the beginning of this week about their investigation.
redten are now very nearly insolvent; NJP have not posted their accounts at compaies house and Shariz Jessa is in court in June for watford debts.
Hope thats helpful, and others may want to add.

Only thing I'd like to add is that NJP are getting a bit of a kicking here but it's not really anything to do with them. Our contracts are with Redten and Clode. NJP probably don't have the right to offer us a MAC code even if they wanted so I don't think any blame should be put on them.
Whilst I wouldn't use them as an ISP because the service/price isn't what I'm looking for, I have to say their customer service IMO has been the best I have experienced for years.0 -
