My daughter bought her wedding dress from China and it's great, she also bought her bridesmaids dresses from China ( different seller ) and it's been a nightmare. My daughter ordered 3 dresses to be sent to me in Edinburgh, 2/3 weeks later she ordered another one to be sent to America where her sister who's her chief bridesmaid lives. There was no sign of the dresses that were to be sent here so my daughter got in touch, long story short all 4 dresses have been sent to America , it's taken ages for them to get through customs there but we think they should be with my daughter in America today or tomorrow, she'll then need to send them to us and the Chinese woman will pay my daughter here for the postage, my daughter gets married 8 weeks today and if the dresses need altered it's going to be cutting it fine as her dress maker is on holiday for a good part of June .

I've posted about this website a few times but I'll post again. I bought mine from https://www.dressilyme.com, a Maggie Sottero copy for £120 inc postage and customs and it's absolutely stunning, feels just like the original I tried on for £1,200.

    thanks
  • You've seen my pics. If anyone else wants a nose let me know.

I can't post them on here as OH comes on here and I don't want him to see my dress before the day but will email them if you PM me your email address.

Hi I am looking to order a dress as well but would love to see your pics if you could send them on.
    Thanks

I ordered my dress on the 2nd October off an ebay seller in China, it is currently in Stanstead customs at the moment but once it arrives I will post a picture of it.

I've got 4 bridesmaids dresses to get on a budget of £150, so was thinking of going for chinese ones on ebay.
The ones i'm looking at are short, purple, halterneck chiffon ones from 'IrEnE and M IchaEl estore'

I'm only worried in case they're poor quality. Has anyone used this seller?

    it also says:
    "Sales Tax
we are not responsible for customs fee, VAT or any extra taxes involved, however, we will try our best to minimize the extra charge for our customers. Moreover, buyer should know your local customs and government regulation before purchase."

What does that mean? and idea ideas how much extra it'll cost?

    Thanks

I know the duty rate is 12% of the valu and that VAT rate is 20% of the value if it's over £135. There is a calculator on the internet:

    http://www.dutycalculator.com/

It reckoned that I'd pay £13.00 on my dress which is due for delivery tomorrow (it's still in Stanstead at the moment though) so I can tell you if it's accurate once it's delivered.

I read somewhere that customs can re-value the dresses as they see fit. Not sure how true this is and if it happens often.

Thank you Lisajane. I used that and seems it's around £50 for my 4 dresses. Not too bad really, adds £12 to each dress but they're still so much cheaper than the high street that it should be worth it.

Surely all the dresses from bridal shops come from China anyway. Why else does it take them 6-8 months to order in? The only difference in ordering it yourself is the quality guarantee. In the shop, you know the quality you'll be getting whereas if you order direct from yourself, it can be hit and miss. However as long as you do your research, I'm sure ordering from China is fine.
