Wedding Dresses from China?

  • This week I received a dress from China that I ordered on eBay for £78.00. I didn't sent measurement just asked for a UK 16 size.

The dress is lovely, it is undeliverable how well is it for the price. It is double lined, it has bones - and I didn't expect this as its chiffon, it has hidden support so you don't have to wear a bra and the finish is perfect!

The only issue is that the dress is a size UK 12. As it is from China it would probably cost too much to return it. You can send your measurements and so long as you do this I am sure it would be fine.

That made me chuckle, i was thinking exactly the same thing - they should really take some english classes.

On another note about this thread - has anyone recently ordered any bridesmaid / wedding dresses off ebay from China? I was playing with the idea for my bridesmaids (4 in total), am i being stupid even considering this? My best friend got hers from ebay £50 each they were and they were lovely, i cant for the life of me find the supplier though but i am sure they were UK based as they arrived pretty swiftly. If anyone can give me any pointers on who to use (preferrably a MSE Bride - not spammers) i would greatly appreciate it.

Have you tried BHS or Debenhams? High street like H&M had some nice stuff you can wear after the event too. x

I agree; £50's a good budget for a high street dress, and they'll probably be of a much higher quality than a Chinese knock-off, plus your maids will get to try them on first, obviously! Most party dresses will automatically be transformed into a bridesmaid's dress with the addition of a bouquet ;)

If you're having trouble finding something post a request in the Find My Dress thread to get a few experienced google-meisters looking on your behalf. :D

    Hi Rubysmummy,
Not a spammer, genuine MSE bride May 2010 :T
I got my BM dresses from Li gh tIn Th eBox (spaces hopefully to fool the spammers but you never can tell...)

One of my BMs was in the States so it did mean that we could all sit around our computers with our phones on speaker messaging different styles and colours. I was quite keen on a really strong deep red whereas the girls wanted more of a burgundy. We ordered burgundy and what turned up was the red :rotfl:
It also meant that one dress could get sent direct to the states to be checked rather than have to wait until she got here the day before the wedding!
The dresses were great, lined, good fabric. Some small adjustments needed for two of the dresses but we expected that.
I did the made-to-measure option as I'd seen a lot of complaints about standard sizing. It worked really well, triple checked everything and still nearly sent everything off in inches rather than centimeters  The fabric had obviously been reused on one of the dresses as the old stitching holes were visible, but only to me with my incredibly picky eye. The girls tell me they were comfortable.
I did make sure that I used a credit card just in case and did it in plenty of time in case anything went wrong.
I had made a mistake with my email address and tried to get hold of customers services. No matter what they say - this does not exist.
Also you will need to expect a bill for tax a few weeks later. The two dresses that arrived here cost me £35 each, plus postage, plus tax. Total around £100.
I was more than happy with them, especially since they picked my colour :) and they looked great.

    Good Luck,

    Wiggy xx

    Hello <first post> newbie!

I too have been looking at getting a cheap copy dress as the Maggie Sottero 'Mona' I have fallen in love with is £1,050 and I really cant afford to spend that much.

I have seen it on a website called weddingdressesonline.uk.com at £205!

Has anyone ever used them please, recommend or avoid?

    Thanks

Hi Carrie Bee, if you do a search for the website name followed by "review" you should come up with a few websites with reviews.
I've just seen that they are reviewed on The Review Centre and the first couple of reviews are not good but:
    1) Always read a large number of reviews before deciding, from different sites.
    2) Remember that people who write reviews usually have a reason - happy customers are less likely to review than unhappy ones, so you'll probably see more poor reviews
    3) I'd generally go with the balance of opinion. More bad reviews than good? Don't go anywhere near.
    4) Be suspicious of the single glowing review!
    5) If you do order use a credit card and if you use PayPal and your goods haven't arrived before the PayPal deadline CANCEL. Some companies have used delaying tactics to push the order past this point so you can't get your money back.
    6) Have a back up plan....

    Hope that helps!
