New House Prices sub-board

Quite. It's as though on, say the Telephones Board, you had a separate sub-board for discussing prices of phones, as though that was somehow unrelated to other issues to do with phones, on a moneysaving site.
Surely EVERONE who comes looking for advice on MSE of all sites, are looking for advice on finance, and whilst not everyone is buying or selling, ie some are renting, even their decisions are based on where they think house prices are going to go.
House prices are not peripheral to a House Buying, Renting, Selling & Prices board, they are central to its purpose.
If anything, if sub-boards have to be created, it would make more sense to hive off say, renting, with separate sections on tenants rights (as this is a clearly delineated area, and of no relevance whatsoever to people buying, for example).
But how a discussion of house prices can be viewed as irrelevant to other threads on buying/selling, I simply cannot imagine.0 -

You want to discuss the fact you think they will fall cause it suits you..I dont want to read that every day, you are boring the tits off me, where's nelly by the way...?0 -
It's not supposed to be an interesting hobby - but it is extremely important to those planning to make the biggest financial decision of their lives.
Why on earth are you on here at all, if you have no interest in house prices?
Don't you have a life?0 -

But your arguement leads logically to the idea that all boards should be merged into one.
Seperate boards are required to keep traffic on each to a managable level and to allow responders to respond to their area of expertese.0 -

However, "Buying", "Selling" and "Prices" are intrinsically linked. One cannot talk about buying without talking about prices. One cannot talk about selling without talking about prices. One cannot talk about prices without expressing some interest in buying or selling. Without buying and selling, there are no such things as "prices". How can it be logical to separate Prices, therefore, from Buying and Selling?
Now those who have expertise in Buying and Selling must also look to a separate sub-forum, and those with an interest in Prices will continue to look at the Buying and Selling forum, thereby leading to a cross-over between the two, confusion as to where is the most appropriate location for a given thread and potential thread duplication as posters try to canvass a majority of opinions. Already if you look, there are several threads on the "Buying, Selling and Renting" forum which have plenty to do with house prices, and if you look on the House Prices sub-forum, there are questions about buying and selling.
Honestly, I'm really not quite sure what the mods were trying to achieve when doing this - unless simply to give the HPCers a place to play away from the HPIers with a view to keeping the peace, rather than trying to make a truly logical division - in itself not a bad idea I suppose!0 -

I would like to buy a house one day, when prices are right - hence this is not a hobby for me. It is my way of informing myself and garnering other people's opinions on what will be the most important purchase of my life.
As you tell us repeatedly that you are content with your house purchase made in December and not at all worried about the direction of house prices, and would be fine even in the event of a crash - why do you persist in reading posts about house prices if you find the subject dull?
By the way, does your wife know about your comments to other women on the internet? Or your children? And what do they think about them?0 -

I think the usual "You have no life cause you discuss on teh interweb" is a daft argument... its the pot calling the kettle black. I mean how do you know really know i'm getting married soon or even have a fiancee? I could be a loner living in a cold basement somewhere with delusions. Maybe :P... nothing is certain on the internet. Ofc its unlikely because of my posts centered around a typical young FTB concenerd about money in regards to weddings, travelling (honeymoon )and buying a house. Just wanted to point out that I or anyone else could be lying about any number of things on the internet.
I find this website good reading, it provides quick advice to any question I ask regarding money and money saving. I love it, but just because I (and i believe others) post on here doesn't mean we have no lives or anything. Its 9pm on a sunday night i'm starting to settle down with a nice cold glass of coke (tesco brand ofc :P) to unwind.
I have a vested interest in prices going down, i can't lie about that so i am biased yes. Even the most biased person can be right.... and its getting easier for the biased HPCers to find evidence for a crash... every day the newspapers are splattered with articles about finances/mortgages and debt.
I'm wondering if you have a vested interest in prices rising and staying the same? Probably not but these vested interests cloud peoples discussions (mine too I admit it), thats the point of discussion though two differeing thoughts/viewpoints talking about a common interest.
For example a guy at work doesn't think house prices are dropping because he can't accept he'd be in !!!! if his two BTLs (which he's funded over last 2-3 years for his pension) lost value.0 -
The biggest (potential) housing crash in history is imminent and the weakest board on the net for house price discussion has reverted to this pathetic little 'sub board'???
What the hell are you people thinking?0 -

If you don't like it, find one that you do. If you can't find one that you like I'm sure you could get a student to knock you up a simple forum website for a couple of hundred quid.
The reason why it's on a sub-board is that when everything was in one place, people that really needed help because they were facing eviction by their Landlord or whatever had their threads swamped with eager posters starting threads entitled "It's started" or "I'm priapic" because a house price index had moved a tick or 2 downwards.
For my money, a sub board is the right thing to do - it allows people (including me) to discuss where house prices are heading if they enjoy that (as I do). It also means that people with other things to talk about can do their thing too. I doubt that "Letting Agent left me homeless - HELP!" or "Shared house: how does everyone else manage?" give a stuff about house prices right now.0
