New House Prices sub-board

Hiya
As you may have just noticed we have a new House Prices sub-board now. If you'd like to discuss them that's the place to do it rather than letting it take over other threads on other subjects.
Some suggestions have been made for other sub-boards but we're just going to stick with this one.
I've moved a couple of threads over there and the Board Guides will move others they consider need moving as and when they come across them.
Also, if board guides feel other threads have veered off from their topics onto the subject of house prices they may move those posts out of those threads to their own threads on that board so if you find any of your posts have disappeared on this board don't assume they've been deleted, have a look for them on there.
Take care
Andrea

Great idea!
Anybody think prices will rise much this year?
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0 -
I knew the old ghetto had disappeared!
I reckon prices are going to .......* and anyone that disagrees is a damned fool.
*(rise/fall/stay the same)
Repeat for 2000 posts.0 -
Yeah, but if something or other happens, could turn out entirely different...0

So now we can't discuss house prices on the "House Buying, Renting, Selling & Prices" board. The reason that there are so many price discussions 'taking over' is that there's a house price crash on (derr!!) It will affect everybody buying, selling or re-mortgaging their house in one way or another. It is not a phenomenon that operates in a vacuum, so breaking the topic away from the main forum makes no sense to me. Political correctness - don't you just love it?
Some people really do have their heads in the sand. Ah well.... see you after the crash people. I've enjoyed the debate for the most part and had fun with the banter
Ciao!0 -
Nonsense, dannyboycey, surely you can see that buying a home is something one does with the heart not the head. Prices don't come into it.
No-one ever thinks about such trifling things as a mere 100K or so when buying a HOUSE, do they???
Why on earth would the House Buying/Selling Board want to bother itself with such irrelevancies as PRICES?
Pah. Some people might think this site had something to do with saving money!
As if......:rolleyes:0 -
Actually, I don't think they've found it yet.
Which I believe was the idea.
To make sure that any rational discussion of possible falls in prices was kept well away anywhere where anyone might spot it.0 -

Rational discussion! Wrong board carolt, I reckon. I've yet to find a rational discussion of house prices on the internet.
If you find one then let me know as I'd love to see it. Just don't tell anyone else!0 -
As rational as we can make it. I have huge respect for your knowledge on the subject and to one with your greater understanding, I dare say our discussions seem anything but rational and are certainly partial (in both senses).
But I think it's better that those thinking of buying are at least aware of the potential discussion going on and that things may not be that straightforward.0 -
I prefer the new board, at least to the previous situation where we were only supposed to post anything about house prices on the one thread, which moved impossibly fast to keep up with.
News of the possible/likely house price falls is now being widely reported in the media with newspapers plastering it all over their front pages, so I don't honestly think people can be unaware. And it's not great if people posting questions on pretty much any housing related matter often get their thread turned into the same old debate rather than getting advice on the specific question they were asking.
At least with the sub-board all the arguments for and against a crash can be easily found in one place and assessed together by the reader.Never mind the house prices, I'm saving a deposit.
[STRIKE]£20,000[/STRIKE] £15,100.82 still needed - 24.50% saved so far!
Buying and moving costs: £3-5k - will save this after the £20k
Aiming to buy my own place by the end of 20110 -
I don't think the split makes any sense to be honest. If someone asks "Should I buy a house?" on the main board, of course some of the answers will be about house prices, because part of the decision in buying a house is considering the price and the current market. The one is inseparable from the other. Ditto selling - threads asking "Why isn't my house selling?" are going to bring up price. How can you therefore make a logical separation of "House Prices" from "House Buying, Selling and Renting"?
I think it's a very odd decision and will cause confusion rather than resolving anything.0
