Rma Idiots

Anyone dealing with RMA beware!!!! My DMP people contacted me to say they were offering me a settlement figure of £220, and to contact them. A day later RMA sent me a letter asking me to contact them. So I did and there is no settlement arrangement!!!! RMA have decided that they want a break down of my outgoings and told me that it had all be sorted out with my DMP, and that the monthly payments were still to be carried on !!!!! What the hell??? Anyway I contacted my DMP people who informed me that RMA had not contacted them at all to change the arrangement and to ask for a statement of my outgoings! They advised me to carry on paying as normal!!!!

Im fuming, extra money calling them bloody 0870 numbers to be told a pack of lies:mad:

Why do these companies do this!!!!

BEWARE!!!!

Ah, don't know much about them except I understand they're a company that charges you. Ever thought about calling the 3 free debt charities such as Payplan, CCCS or National Debtline? I think if they were trying for a F+F settlement RMA would have written to you direct.
  • Whatever you do, DO NOT talk to RMA over the phone. They talk to you as though you are a criminal and try to intimidate you into paying more than you can. Let them know you will only deal with them via post. They will give you the speech about it being a 'telephone only' company. Ignore it.

Since the last person I spoke to there was very hostile and rude to me, I wrote to them and copied the letter to every other company concerned with them, including trading standards. They now send me a letter every 2 weeks telling me to call immediately etc. I have a growing pile of paper. yes, I keep them all. Never know when you might need them.

As far as I am concerned, I am making regular payments so there is not much they can do other than drag me to court and the judge will most likely make me pay what I can afford, which is what they are getting already.

Every now and then they still call. I tell them the same thing - 'I am not confirming any details and I have told your company I am only dealing with you by post'.

Stick to your guns and continue paying whatever you are at the moment. Don't waste any more time or money talking to them.

Very good advice - applicable to dealing with any debt collection agency.

Other good advice, on this thread, is to talk to one of the FREE Debt Counselling Charities.

Surely they shouldnt be contacting me at all!!! I have been dealing with them via B & E for over four years now. They have been getting all I can afford each time!! They better not be sending me letters out all the time now, I though id seen the back of all that hassle years ago!!

Do you know how much you're paying B+E to adminster your DMP and are you tied in to it for a certain length of time? I suggest you check these out and depending on what you find call each debt charity in turn, see what their advice is then defect!
As the debt charities don't charge for their services it leaves more to pay off and get out of debt quicker.

Thanks for the advice  I dont know if im tied into my current managment plan. I hear what your saying about contacting other free DMP companies, but i dont think i could go through the hassle of sorting out each debtor all over again, deciding who gets what, the constant letters of threats for more money, not accepting the minimum payment etc, i just about had a nervous breakdown last time:confused:

You are quite right, wormy - they should NOT be contacting you. Both the OFT Debt Collection Guidance, as laid down by the Office of Fair Trading, and the csa 'code of conduct' state that debt collectors should deal with a nominated third party, and that it is considered 'unfair practice' to ignore your request to do so:

You can, indeed should, report this behaviour to Trading Standards.

    Hi again wormy,
I take it you have an Income and expenditure sheet all laid out for B+E. That's all you really need. Not sure how B+E do it but the charities will go through your income and expenses, then with what's left goes to pay your creditors. You also tell them who your creditors are and how much you owe to each. They work out each payment for you on a pro-rata basis. I found it very stress free when I set my DMP up with CCCS. You might find that creditors are more receptive too as the charities have an excellent reputation.
