  • Ok, so the cashier had two options:

    1) Sell you the alcohol without ID which is against the law even if she did 'know you'.

    2) Sell your oh the alcohol clearly knowing it's for you, thereby helping him commit what could be in his/her mind, a crime. Which she'll also be held partly responsible.

He/she had the weight of the situation on his/her shoulders and when you complained and got the manager who stepped in he/she would then take the heat if something, of anything, was wrong in the transaction. I don't blame the poor person.

it doesnt mean he was buying it for me at all, also it does state that they can serve anyone who shows id alcohol even if they are with a minor, as long as that minor is their child, wife, husband or partner (i did a search on the net and also tesco have confirmed this is correct)

I've been wondering this. How is the cashier suppose to know that the child/wife/husband or partner really is that. I'm sure the law doesn't allow you just to take someones word for it.

Still notice we haven't got a town name yet for this town where absolutely
everyone knows each other. I'm beginning to think it might be called Dibley.

Thats just a standard customer service responce. What companies tell you to keep you happy and what they really mean are two completely different things.

By the way saying what town you live in isn't exactly giving out your address!

Is that really a fact or something you made up?

Say a cornershop, a teenager lives next door and knows the shopkeeper very well. He goes in on his 18th birthday with ID and buys alcohol, does he too need to take ID in every time in the future?

Hello? How is it against the law to sell someone over 18 alchohol lol?

You only ask for ID if you think the person is under 18 I know I used to work in the Co-Op if i THOUGHT the person was under 21 I had to ask for ID. Now if you know someone and know theyre over that age your pretty damn thick if you forget their age.

As OP said Tesco admitted they were in the wrong so no point defending Tesco and trying to argue against OP if the store themselves agree lol
