A two year old? Don't you think the landlord may have used something generally known as discretion?! He may (just a hunch) have not suspected you to be buying a pint for your kid.

At a guess, if you asked him, he'd tell you he's not supposed to be selling alcohol to somebody if he suspects them to be buying for a minor. He'd probably also confirm he didn't think your two year old was a drinker....

The chances are that the landlord took his licensing exam many years ago and has probably forgotten the rules anyway.

I thank you; maybe checkout operators also have this ability?

I know they did when I was one.

Yes - but going back to the original subject, the CA thought they were selling to a minor! (Check my original post, number 91)

i have just done some research online and they can refuse to sell to anyone over who is with a minor unless the minor is thier child, wife, husband or partner.

At end of the day if they knew she was over 18 why did she get funny with the op? She was being snooty and thought she was better than the customer thats all!

It's not hard to know more than a Tesco manager lol, they dont even know Tescos' own policies. The amount of times I've had to ring CS who have had to ring the manager to inform them they're in the wrong.
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
  • I carry out under age sales and still too many shops sell to children who are and look under 18 and the sales assistants are subject to an £80 on the spot fine which i think is why they are stricter (unfortunately the assistants are too young to use common sense). We have suspended many shops alcohol license so it's still a serious problem. Can i point out however that my local Tesco Extra has a under 30 policy!!! How ridiculous!!!
