Dear All,
For those of you in the know, you'll be aware that we have an absolute MONSTER of a Madasafish Q&A thread, so I felt this would be a sensible opportunity to create a similar opportunity for all of our current and potential PlusNet customers who are also MSE readers to be able to ask questions of our team.
I look forward to hearing from you

Hi everyone
James is a rep for both Madasafish and Plusnet so as there's a long running thread for Madasafish it makes sense to have one for Plusnet too where James will attempt to answer anyones' questions while, obviously, sticking within the rules.
Thanks James!

Hi been with 'Plusnet' broadband for almost 4yrs now with no problems what so ever, with efficient customer service. I've been looking at adding a phone package, even checking other broadband packages, but so reluctant to leave 'Plusnet' broadband just to save a few £'s. So upgrading with 'Plusnet' & an home package would save me £6.12 a year. I realise the discount/saving of £15 for first 3mths.
My wife is reluctant not to have BT's landline thinking we need BT for other products in future?. Don't know what? Just wondered also any comments if anyone is using 'Plusnets home phone'?
Thxjoe2cool0 -
I've used PN's home phone for about four months now with absolutely no problems!
As for moving your line "away from BT" - you're only moving it away from BT Retail - the line is still a "BT line" in that it is provided and maintained by BT Openreach in exactly the same manner as they provide and maintain it for BT retail. The only difference is that you phone PN if there's a fault and they liaise with Openreach as opposed to phoning BT Retail (who would then liaise with Openreach).
Your PN line will continue to work with Sky boxes etc. in just the same way as a BT Retail line! Basically, anything that says "BT Line Required" really means "BT Openreach Line Required".0 -
Hi there,
There shouldn't be any downsides in moving to our Home Phone packages. It's essentially very, very similar to what BT supply.
Should you ever wish to, you can always move back to BT as you'll be on a monthly contract.“Official Company Representative

There are a couple of downsides.
You cannot use 1899, 18185 etc for free calls, so have to pay for all your daytime calls with maaf.
And if you want caller display (virtually free with BT), you have to pay maaf £1.50, which makes the maaf deal more expensive than bt.
Also if you are currently not on a minimum BT contract, should you want to return to them in the future, then you will have to enter a new minimum contract of 12 or 18 months.0 -
Just got broadband with Plus net....took a month because phone was on a shared line. However well pleased..machine now flying.
Thinking about the phone package but 1571 costs and I use that a lot. Could get my own message system I suppose and at £47 a year a possible saving but!!!!!
Well done Plus Net. Pleased with£10 a month less £28 cashback .
Question James...is the phone package available at all exchanges and is there a re-connection charge in the event of things going pear shaped.0 -
The £47 possible saving is not quite the true picture these days.
If you stay with BT, the monthly charge is £10.50 if you have on line billing. Just 51p a month more than pn. So the maximum saving is £6.12.
But if you want caller id you get charged £1.50 by pn (£18/year)
1571 is £1/month. Both of these are virtually free with bt.
These will soon eat away the £15 introductory offer from pn.
With BT you can get free evening and weekend calls via primus without entering into a contract with bt.

Thanks Quentin/Heinz and all , will leave it.
In the meantime will enjoy the speed of broadie.0 -
You cannot use 1899, 18185 etc for free calls,
If they do ever decide to block access to override providers then you're on a monthly contract and can move back to BT fairly quickly if you wanted.
As for 12 or 18 month contracts with BT - that's only for line rental, it wouldn't stop you using a CPS provider if you wanted.
I'll give you the caller display and 1571 though - if you want both of those on PN it would be £2 for the bundle(stand alone prices are £1 for 1571 and £1.50 for caller display). Though if you don't use these services PN's line rental is hard to beat.
One major plus with PN is customer service - it is far and away miles better than BT's (and it's all UK based).0 -
@ Ken
You should be able to get our Home Phone services anywhere it is possible to get a BT telephone line.
@ Quentin
Might be worth bearing in mind that these are questions surrounding PlusNet's Home Phone services and not related to MAAF Talk.“Official Company Representative
