Beware sudden weather change this weekend!

Wizzwo - Bubblewrap will be fine as long as it's anchored down well with heavy objects to prevent it flying off in the wind.
Incidentally, if you drink bottled mineral water, buy it in the jumbo square (5 litre ?) bottles. Once empty they make ideal individual cloches for small plants once the bottom has been cut off. There is the natural ventilation hole at the top, through which you can poke a stick to keep it anchored when it's windy. I use lots of these to protect my young tomato plants when first planted outside in the border and they work really well against unexpected late frost or a sudden snap of cold weather.0 -
Thanks for that. Will get out there as soon as there is a break in the weather...still raining here!
It's been a funny morning in our garden already today - an odd collection of birds...pheasants, ring collared doves, wood pigeons, blackbirds, tits and a wren.
I like the idea with the bottles Primrose. They would have fitted over the Peony's really well too - I'll keep an eye open for some.0 -
Well, we were warned of heavy rain and snow all weekend here on the Lincs/Cambs border.. Woke up this morning to glorious blue sky and not a cloud to be seen! Let's hope it stays this way!!Sealed Pot Challenge! Aim; £100 Currently £11.61£2 Saving Club; Aim; £200 Currently £0

Just been out in the garden and BRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! it might be bright and sunny out there but you can tell the temperature has dropped!!!! That cold arctic wind is certainly making it's presence felt“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Oh no!!! I planted all my baby vegetables out a few days ago...I'm in Cornwall - do you think I'll get away with it or should I go and get some sort of fleece? I've put my courgettes, sweetcorn, cabbages, purple broc seeds, potatoes, onions, leeks and red onions out - I'll be gutted if I lose them, I've grown all my babies from seed : (
Can anyone suggest the best way to protect them? I know a place where I can probably buy a bale of straw, or should I go to the garden centre and get fleecy stuff?£15k of unsecured debt.....oh dear0 -
I think fleece would be best, as the forecast is wind so any straw would need holding down with something
Plus fleece will give them a micro climate to help them get going
The main danger is to your courgettes, they will not stand even a nip of frost
If not many dig them up again maybe?Numerus non sum0 -
Thanks Farway, I've only grown two courgette plants, I may bring them in - my garden is pretty sheltered from the wind by trees and high fences but I'm quite high up so i'm worried about frost...
it's my first year growing veg and I was too excited to get going, serves me right, at least next year I'll know to hold my horses a bit!
Snow in Cornwall - whatever next!£15k of unsecured debt.....oh dear0 -
Well we have had the snow this morning! It's all gone for now though but I am so glad I rigged up a make shift plastic cover for my veggies ( I knew th eold plastic greenhouse cove was worth keeping).0

They shouldn't really go out till next month, even in sunny cornwall I should think.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
