I didn't know what a Skoda Yeti is, had to look it up. Our Fiesta got us thousands of miles without problem so we shan't be replacing it just yet a while.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

He wanted a Yeti last time we bought a car, and we settled on the Roomster because it was 'practical' - about time he had a fun car I think (although it is practical too!).
Congratulations on becoming mortgage-free tanith, and on your impending Great-Grandma-hoodAlso happy Anniversary!!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
And it was a lovely surprise. It is from my birth aunt, who I only traced three years ago...she had no children of her own, in fact myself and my son are her only blood relatives, other than her sister, my mother....she left a few legacies including £10k to my son...and then left all the remainder between myself and my birth mother. I was shocked and upset when I heard, and I cried, I felt I didn't deserve it, but the executor, who we have become good friends with told me not to be silly, it was her wish and to just enjoy it.
Aunty V was a believer, same as me, so I thank her daily and hope she can see me using it wisely (she'd have liked the Yeti though!).
She died, aged 95, on January 22nd, after a short illness.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Very best wishes, SDWE, enjoy your inheritance and your new car.
DH has just finished adding up all that we spent on our recent travels. Most of it was on one credit card, the one that gives him better terms when abroad, and the total was just short of £2.5K. I've paid him my half, he's paid off the credit card so all done and dusted. We did see some lovely places, met some very nice people, had some enjoyable meals. We rediscovered why we prefer travelling independently and not in a group but also, staying in different places is getting too tiring for us. Next time we go abroad we'll use one place as a base and sightsee from there.
My beginners' course in German came in really useful. Although native German speakers want to practise their English, people who work in cafes and restaurants are often not native German-speakers. They've learned German to work in Germany but it's no good expecting them to speak English as well. At beginners' level you learn to order drinks, meals etc and it came in really useful. The French mainly expect everyone to speak their language anyway, and my 'O' level French still comes in useful.
Next trip away will be to Lulworth Cove for my birthday. And next year, if we live so long, the Harz mountains.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We didn't get the new car in the end. My husband test drove o Yeti and decided it wasn't worth the money. He is going to buy a new motorbike instead.
We are thinking of buying a chalet,in Wales as a holiday home, still exploring this option. Watch this space!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I am back in and with a vengeance, have even edited my first post to reflect changed circumstances. I just read that someone was looking at a yeti, I have one an L&K new last november, love it, absolutely love it. Such a good workhorse as well as fun to drive and reliable
A new kitchen, finished just 3 weeks ago and all the appliances are now top of the range miele, there is method in my madness, they need to last now that I am getting on and I am not undergoing that joint aching upheaval again
I added a bose wave radio/cd to my lounge and 7 months ago a fab new very expensive zero gravity chair. Oh well the time to do all this is now, while I feel well and healthy and can enjoy it all
Oh yes the roomba, wow what an awesome helpful robot, he gets on with all the floor cleaning, even corners and all I have to do is empty him. Cost a lot but better than a cleaner coming in every week
I have to be thinking of a holiday before too long, may well enjoy winter here first, after all I did buy a new wood pellet stove and I want to gaze at the flames
SDW, congratulations, what a lovely surprise for you. I saw a roomster today when I parked my yeti and walked to the cs with `stuff`, I thought then that it was a lovely looking car
Oh yes I still cook for myself but have bought a few meals out now and also some top notch ready food, well life is short, too much to do0 -
Hello Kittie
Sorry to hear of the death of your husband, and well done on moving on constructively.
We are still being Professional Holiday Makers, and enjoying it.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Thank you dg, yes a shock when the policeman came, his heart just stopped suddenly. Good pulse for 63 miles monitered on his garmin (cycling) then suddenly 10 minutes from home, massively high pulse and then nothing, cardiac arrest not heart attack. Garmin download shows all the data and route and suddenly the straight line when he was taken by air ambulance. It happened quickly, doing what he loved, just horrible for me, hence the widow thread as I didn`t know which way to turn. However I am getting my life back now but there is a deep mental change in that `life really is short`. So now I am spending money that we worked for, always however leaving enough for possible care for one but I am very healthy so am optimistic that I will be staying in our lovely home
Back to ski-ing, I am turning things over here, slowly getting rid of things that could be improved and then buying the improved version. Just a bag today when I went to costco, not expensive but leather, cross body, zips and pockets and big enough to be useful. I bought one in maroon last week, used it and loved it so bought another in black today, in return I will find three things to go out
Going to costco was a ski-ing extravagance, 80 mile round trip so made the best of it and bought lots of bird seed and lovely chocolates just for me, not forgetting all the vegan food for our family gathering in december. Brilliant to freeze, I have a vegan, veggies and meat eaters coming, so also got aberdeen angus well hung beef. All to be packed and then frozen in my ski-ing costco ziplock bags. Lol, I am not re-using bags any more, why should I, anyway my new found consumerism helps keep people in work0
