There's not much point in doing it in your food processor if you already shelled out for a breadmaker. If you have poorly hands you can use the breadmaker to knead the dough (set it to dough setting) and cook the dough in the oven. The results will be way better.

cooking-mama wrote: »well,i went ahead and bought the Rachel Allen one,in its defence,it did make a perfect large loaf fastbake(1hr.20min)...But my problem is,no-one likes the taste of the bread:eek:. I dont know if its due to the yeast or amount of salt/sugar that had to be added,or due to the 60ml sunflower oil,but it tastes"odd",I had a 1/2slice last night and can still taste it,:D,another problem is difficulty in converting recipes as all the ones in the leaflet are counted out in american cups, looks like were gonna have the best fed garden birds in our area today;).
Thanks everyone.
PS/,looks like a good deal on Amazon for the panasonic SD254,£67.75 (free delivery)

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the "What's the best BM" thread
The answer is Panasonic, btw :rotfl:

My old SWAN BM has given up the ghost - just missed the last £19.99 Kenwood BM250 in Currys sale and now refuse to pay more for the same model - LOL
Question for Lemoncurd, or anyone else in the know, was that price of £73.59, at COSTCO, including VAT?
Might just have to find someone we know with a COSTCO card so we go to Thurrock shopping........
Did you get one in the end? We got one a couple of weeks ago now, the only thing is, it is still sitting in the box. I'm too scared to make the leap from our Panasonic in case it is a complete disaster!0 -
Tip I read today from a French Bread Baker. Do not knead the dough, it squashes all the air out of it, tirs this and believe me the bread was beautifully light and soft, I will never knead the dough again!
I tried and still have a Panasonic Bread Maker, could not get on with it at all, it is the 3rd Bread Maker I have bought and will never but another one. By hand, without kneading is the best way to baking Home bread. You live..You learn.:)0 -

Hi
Yes, took the plunge - still getting to grips with the differences (ie lots more programmes:eek: ) from our very old Swan.
So far very good - best sandwich loaf made so far was using the rapid wholewheat prog (no 4). ~ Varied the recipe - light wholemeal in the book . Added some herbs & used garlic salt instead of ord salt. Made it last night , left it to cool then wrapped in a tea towel. Sliced great this afternoon. Made some lovely ham sarnies. Left some to try tomorrow to see how it keeps.
Also made great pizza dough. Playing hell with the diet tho, still got to try this things :rotfl:
Do try it - would love to know how it fares against the Panny and what recipes, tricks, you use to get the perfect loaf.0 -
I bought the Rachel Allen one too, as the Panasonic was a bit beyond my budget. We've made two loaves with it so far, one French bread and the other bog-standard white on the rapid setting. I have to say I'm over the moon with the results! Even my husband, who is fussy about bread, has declared that it was far nicer than shop-bought. The loaves were a good size and shape too.
When it dies (hopefully not for a long while) I'll replace it with a Panasonic but in the meantime I have no complaints. I'll have to give the jam-making a go too and see how it copes.0 -

Do you think it would be possible to use butter instead of oil in the Rachel Allen breadmaker?,i think it was probably the taste of the oil that we didnt like/Thanks.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
