Which is the best home breadmaker?

I've had the SD255 for just over a year (Last Christmas) and absolutely love it. Tried all kinds of bread recipes but the favourites, and also consistently the best turned out, seem to be the rustic french and the Granary. For the Granary I use Doves Farm "Malthouse" flour instead. It makes a fantastic loaf. My worst results seem to be any of the rye or spelt recipes. I just can't seem to get a good rye or spelt loaf.
I've also found that the best packet yeast to use seems to be Asda's own.0 -

We would use a loaf every other day, BUT I like my bread really fresh, thats what appeals to me about a breakmaker.0 -
Hello!
I have been lurking on this board for weeks now and after reading this thread I decided to go out today and buy the SD254 instead of the cheaper tesco breadmaker...its fantastic! I had a cheap Cookworks model a couple of years ago which was a bit hit and miss and put me off a bit (particularly getting the paddle out of the loaf!). First loaf from the Panasonic looked gorgeous and tasted great..now have a brioche loaf on the go for breakfast!
Thank you all for the great advice you freely share (I have learnt sooo much from this board over the last couple of months!) and I look forward joining you all on the boards!0 -
sounds yummy i love brioche bread especially the one with choc in.One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

I put an ad up on freecycle last night looking for a breadmaker, and a woman contacted me (who lives round the corner) and is dropping it off to me tomorrow (i wonder might she decide to leave it tonight as im apparently literally round the corner! )
So, i have never made bread ever and would appreciate some basics.
Ive got the hang of the slow cooker complete collection and all but ive not mastered the "basics" yet, so could some kind soul point me towards stuff?
I need to know basic ingredients and a fail safe first time recipe if someone would be so kind and show me towards some basic advice??
I have no idea of the model or anything. I thought it would be too cheeky to ask!
LauraA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Can I have some advice/reviews in particular from anyone who has the Kenwood BD 450 - my mum has the Panasonic SD255 and on reading reviews on this, was the one I was going to go for.
However, looking last night and I saw the Kenwood BD 450, at the moment this only appeals due to the stainless steel finish which would go with my kitchen BUT is it any good? and how does it compare to the Panasonic? It is about £26 more expensive from a quick check online and has the 1hr fast back option which looks interesting. Does it do pizza dough like the Panasonic though?
Any comments appreciated.
In case anyone else is interested in this model, I bought the Kenwood BD450, gorgeous brushed stainless steel effect. It has a light and glass lid so you can see it in progress. Anyway have only used it twice so far, for pizza dough and then for a basic white loaf with pumpkin seeds - really impressed and perfect results!! Comparing it to the Panasonic my mum has, the bread is very similar, I wouldn't recommend one over the other, both great!0 -
Everyone seems to say the Panasonic is great.
One question, do you get a hole in the bottom of your loaf from the paddle? (I've read people complain a BMs because of that).0 -
after reading threads about breadmakers, i have decided to splash out and have a go. i have seen this one in argos and was wondering if it was any good. has anyone seen any cheap ones elsewhere.
thanks in advance0 -
i have this one. although bought it about 18 months ago. It was an xmas pressie wasn't the one i wanted i wanted a smaller one as it was only gonna be second one to use along side the one i already have. But this is now the one i use all the time. It fab. ALthough i never make a loaf of bread in it. i use it for apple braids dough, iced fingers dough, bread roll, pizza bases etc. It is really easy to use. Has a carry handle which is fab if you don't want to keep it on the worktop. also has a delay timer on it. so u can put your stuff in night before and set it so you wake up to fresh made bread.0
