That sounds like my perfect day. Can I come live with you sophiesmum? :A
Looks like you did a fantastic job!
Janey, I'm glad Tom will get a sendoff the way he would like it, so many people I know would hate to leave in a stuffy suit etc. The Davey Crocket hat and sword made me smile0 -
My darling Tom will be off to sort out the angels wearing...wait for it....one of his chef's t-shirts emblazoned with wolves, a pair of his comfy tracksuit bottoms. He will be taking his letters, a magnificent sword that was to be his Christmas present from one of our son and daughter in law and wearing his beloved Davey Crockett hat.
The buffet is all going to be from M&S :T with a special request for their mini pork pies which he adored. Big bowls of strawberries and cream. And money behind the bar for everyone to have a last drink from this great man.
Janey, this really made me smile; I'm humming a little tune, thinking of you and Tom and shall now, from hereonin, think of you as Janey, Queen of the wild frontier!
I have only just caught up with all the posts, having been unable to sign on for the past 2 days. DD & soon to be DSIL had a wonderful time at their party and, thankfully, there was enough food to feed everyone. I promise that I behaved as best I could when there's whisky flowing, fine food, music playing, people dancing .... The DJ was excellent, DD's future in laws seem very nice and everyone, to my knowledge, had a fantastic time. I have updated my signature with the entire frugarty budget spend, which included about £100 for decorations, tableware, wine and a special meal for visiting parents. My biggest dilemma is what to do about all the extra foodstuffs that didn't get cooked, as I had far too much. (Pasta salad, anyone?) I really should do an inventory of what is left then deduct it from my total to find the true cost-per-head of a frugarty. My wild guess would be that I have used less than two thirds of the food. In addition, much of the tableware and most of the decorations are reuseable, plus the things needed for DGD's birthday party in August were included in the spend. I'll work it all out in part 3, I think.
It really is the final countdown to part 3! We have only one full day left until the new thread, so get posting your end of quarter SOAs if you have them. I'll start the new thread on the 1st July and request this one be closed soon after to avoid confusion.
For some of you, the beginning of part 3 will be your first day of a 6 month challenge which ends when the bells toll at midnight on 31/12/08 to bring in the new year. I'd like to take this opportunity to say welcome newbies and good luck with this challenge. It is meant to be fun, it isn't enforced poverty. It's about making the most of what you've got (no singing at the back, please) and appreciating how the good life doesn't need to be just self-suffiecient gardens and coping with debts. Frugal living is a lifestyle that grows on you and probably won't leave you once you're hooked. Make the most of all the great support available in the forums and, wherever possible, offer your own helpful hints and tips about how to frugalise. Newbies - could you please post your usernames followed by target amounts in RED so I can easily pick out the new names to be added to the list of challengers.
To all regular frugalers, frugalites, frurkers and frunchkins, I am looking forward to a summer of sunny savings. The first 6 months have already been an absolute rollercoaster ride that's seen everything from the birth of the first baby frugalmiteto the very sad loss of one of our virtual friends by association, known to most as 'Janey's DH'. Janey, please stick with us and continue to post and keep alive the memory of Tom for all of us. You have inspired many and we are all going to miss the day to day exploits of your beloved husband. Thank you for sharing so much with us. It was always clear to see that he meant everything to you, no matter what he did.
:xmassmile :wall::happyhear
Sneak preview - Part 3 includes our first fully fledged frugal wedding, so let's all put out virtual hands together for Whitewing and her H2B. :T :T :T
I'll leave it up to each of you to have your own occasional skip through the first 2 parts of this challenge whenever you feel the need to find the bits that mean something special to you. For me, there have been far too many to mention here and everyone taking part has become like a friend, virtual or otherwise.
Now for the boring part - I'm working away from the house from tomorrow until next Sunday, so won't be able to check the forums as often as I'd like, although I will have the laptop with me. It'll depend if I can get an Internet connection. But I'll check morning, noon and night and you can always PM me. Don't forget that tomorrow is the last Monday opportunity for free bingo. Sadly, I'll need to sit this one out :j oops, I meanI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
I have had a loverly day today..went to my friends where she made me lasagne but funny thing is she didn't use mince..she used salami and courgettes and loads of veg in it. It was very nice though. Washed down with 2 glasses of wine..if i had of had more i wouldnt of been able to walk home
Im now resting whilst my son plays with bricks..have to be up early in morning my DS is at nursery in morning as i have an appointment at 10am tomorrow again.. but a loverly morning all to myself as i need 1hr after my appointment to my self so going to look round town and then meet my friend who is going to cut my hair... all this whilst my DD is with my other friend. She is also picking my DS up from nursery at dinner time
Tomorrows spends should be £10 for my haircut. I have updated sig as my DD of £11.27 came out today for insurance (well tomorrow but its showing its come out now) but apart from that i am on 4th NSD this month out of my target of 5 :rotfl: I know does not seem much but to everyone who knew me before that i never hardly had any nsd's so i am very proud of myself, and i have only spent £2 in 3 days and that was on some rides for the children whilst out with sophiesmum.£2 well spent as my DD made me laugh all through the ride :rotfl:
Im going to stop writing now as i wont have a morning post to do tomorrow as i'd of told you all about tomorrow...today :rotfl:
Have fun everyone and Love to Janey xx

Nyk- Glad the frugarty went well and you managed to behave with the ex side of the family. Everyone always over caters for buffets, but its better than having too little food on the night. If there are any top hats left over i am quite happy to rehome them for you:rotfl: .
Looking forward to the next part of the challenge, as will be starting work on my half allotment and will probably soon be setting up with some chickens:j :j :j :j also on allotment. Then there is the blackberry harvest to come:D.
Good things that have come from this challenge - making lots of virtual friends:A and a real life friend:D ,picking up frugal tips and enjoying banter with like minded people, saving lots of money for our future life in Malta, and realising what exactly is important in life;) and seeing that there is at least one other person who number crunches more than me.;)
Funniest thing from this challenge - There have been lots of funny posts, particularly from janey, who has a lovely writing style, but the prize for the one that had me howling with laughter was when Nyk made the giant Jaffa cake:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: priceless.
Good Luck with part 3 everyone:j
Nyk thanks for starting this thread, I love this little community:smileyhea0
