Live on £4000 for a year - Part 2

:j I have located a christmas pudding, frugalmum had one lurking in her cupboard from last year. It is quite a big one but i will have to do small portions to make it do 25:rolleyes: hopefully one or two won't want any OH being one, and I am quite happy to do without so that will help stretch it.:D
Nyk - salad leaves look yummy. One thing I have found with the home grown stuff is that it is better eaten as soon as possiblle after picking as it seems to wilt very quickly. Mind it doesn't hang around long here before it is cooked or eaten;) have just picked some lovely strawbs to have on porridge in the morning, snaffled a few already and they tasted lovely, better than the ones from shop:D.0 -
Thanks for letting me in on your energy supply habits NYK. I've just popped upstairs and my DS has all the lights on again....AARGHHH:eek: I'm sure that British Gas was supposed to send all of their customers 4 free energy lightbulbs. I must look into that as I haven't had mine.
Well, OH and I went to sort out his lock-up. I was so pleased as there are all sorts of goodies for the car-bootie:T which include amongst other things, 2 5 litre tubs of 'Ivy Green' Cuprinol fence paint. 1, 5 litre tub of 'Harbour Blue'. A 25 box of 3" square wall tiles, all new. There is also wooden flooring still in their boxes, and I am going to them put in my hall, after I have painted the walls. I'm so pleased. There was old carpet and underlay that wasn't salvagable so we took it to the tip, and now OH can hand the keys back to the council tomorrow and save himself £18 pm.:D
I spent this afternoon painting my shed with one of the tubs of green wood paint and it looks great. I have not even used half of the tub so I'm going to keep it for future projects, and sell the other two tubs at the weekend. I didn't get time to dig my lawn up , and I have my grandson on Wednesdays so I can't see that happening unless I do it at tea time.
I've had a good day today and I hope you all have had one too. Keep up the good work.:TLiving a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

I HAVE to post this link, I simply HAVE to! It's a .pdf property schedule for something I spotted in this corner of the country and oooooooooooh if only...! It is very, very unusual but there's so much scope for developing it into a self-sufficient eco-friendly home - take a peek if you dare.
Bails - you best not look at this one as the garden area stretches to over an acre and the asking price is tiny in comparison to all the 'down south' equivalents. O/O £150k, but needs a bit of work.
I SAW IT FIRST!
PLEEEEEEEEEEASE LET MY PREMIUM BOND NUMBERS COME UP NEXT WEEK :rotfl:
Sophiesmum - homegrown lettuce storage; I wash it, pat it dry with a clean tea towl, pop it in a polythene food bag and seal it closed with enough air in the bag that it looks liable to burst. So long as the lettuce is fairly dry, a quick tumble each day and it can stay crispy for 3 or 4 days (but never lasts that long here). The crispier varieties, like iceberg, I chop and store in cold water in the fridge. If you change the water daily, it lasts for ages! I also store diced cucumber and tomatoes (scrape out the tomato seeds first) in sealed tubs in the fridge and it's a great way of always having stuff ready to pick at when you get peckish or to grab a handful of each to have as side salad with most things
Did anyone remember the free bingo yesterday? I forgot all about it!
OK, OK, in all my excitement at seeing that house I forgot to add in the link!! OOPS!! Here it is, my frugal dream home (Remember it's a pdf file, so it needs Adobe Acrobat Reader or similar to view it.)I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Just had a peek at you 'dream home' NYK. You can do loads with that place!:j I saw a programe where people do up old buildings and one of the projects was in a building like the one you have just shown. Just think what you could do with the land, and they are not asking a fortune either.:DLiving a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

If I won a fortune right now, I would buy it without any hesitation! I wish, I wish, I wish... I wonder if I've time to do enough competitions to win that amount of money? Anyone got any suggestions for raising a quick £150k? (legal ones!) :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.

:smileyhea Sending you good vibes NYK.
I have been reading about 'Cosmic Ordering'. All you have to do is think about what you want, visualise it, and believe that you can have what you ask for. Having a mantra also helps, and then believe that all is possible.:D
I have tried this and it does work. I think that sometimes fear holds us back. When we fear that we are going to fail, then we set ourselves up to fail, because we are telling ourselves that that is what we deserve.
Feel the fear and do it anyway...thats what the book says!;)Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Who was it asked about the spuds - Nyk? You can start lifting when the flowers have died off.'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

I just discovered another frugalite-friendly money game that will drive me daft over the coming months!
has anyone read about the new 2008 coins? I must have my head in the sand, as I hadn't even heard a thing about this and don't even know if it's true!
The (UK) circulating coins, excepting the two pound coin, were redesigned in 2008, keeping the sizes and compositions unchanged, but introducing reverse designs that each depict a part of the Royal Shield of Arms and form the whole shield when they are placed together in the appropriate arrangement. The exception, the 2008 one pound coin, depicts the entire shield of arms on the reverse.
I NEED to know if this is correct and, if so, I'll NEED to try to collect all of the coins that make up the money jigsaw! I found the article in Wikipedia whilst err, umm... trying to cheat and work out how much change I've saved in 'Phil the Pig' (my sealed pot) by calculating coin weights.:rotfl:
