Something AMAZING just happened. I got this mysterious big parcel delivered to me and inside was a BREAD MAKER!!! Also there was this lovely little dog in a lovely little pink bag with paw prints all over the bag and some sweeties. I must have a fairy godmother somewhere and she must be reading this thread to know me so well. So if you are reading this a BIG THANK YOU!!! :j:j:j
Now I definitely need to get my meal planning and shopping list started so I can go and get ingredients for my first ever HM bread. (Heading to Mysupermarket to find best value flour...)
Do you know who sent it?
Well change of plan for me today.. I went to the doctors yesterday because i have pain all the time in my right eye but doctor couldnt find anything wrong.. WOW bails had kittens????? Thats amazing
I am rather talented
Morning everyone! :hello: Welcome Nessa, come on in and post as often as you like!
Great news about the tax-free limit rising Nyk, I'd missed that so will tell OH :T What a lovely surprise Marru, I'm assuming you know who it's from? (Lidl do 48p flour BTW).
MrDT, sounds like you've got London pretty well squared away, nice one on getting the Hoxton room, have a lovely time.
Your garden sounds great Nyk, well done and it must be so much nicer knowing you can really get into it now you're staying. I need to get out into mine again soon but need to go shopping first  *breaks into a hot sweat and palpitations* Our car's in the garage, hopefully picking it up today as I need some more compost but OH did cycle to HB yesterday to pick up the bits for the slug defences. The electric fences are successfully made and installed (with the help of Marru's DD) and have been tested on a [strike]poor little mite[/strike] vicious produce-eating slug. He survived but got quite a shock (yes, I know that's the point
) so we're going to get a lower voltage battery. OH reckons it cost £10 for all the stuff so happy with that if it saves my veggies. Now just have to work out some protection for my bean plants...
I managed to move the kittens by midday yesterday so that was a relief and they're now safely tucked up in a box with an old duvet. Mum is being extremely accommodating of me and is happy to have me around helping her out (not so with OH though - I think maybe she was abused by a man?). Which one did you hold first Marru, I can't remember? If I got to keep one (I know, I know :rotfl:) I think it would be the multi-coloured one, although they are all adorable :heartpuls
Good luck at the doctors Mumzy, I hope it's nothing serious.The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

I went to a party last night, and am feeling really dodgy this morning... that'll teach me!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Morning, morning. Everyone seems quite chirpy today. I'm alternating between happy, panic, tired and worried, depending on whether I'm thinking about wedding, wedding, DS' SATs and my self-employment, or my part time job issue.
Wedding: very happy. Found a lovely venue in Cornwall for the informal reception (will be a frugal wedding,, probably self-catered) and the owner has agreed for us to book it without knowing numbers! We said to mum & dad that they can invite any family members they want to to the 'do'. We don't want to get into family politics or snub anyone, so inviting all and assuming a percentage will come. (And okay if all come).
I am frugally borrowing an exercise bike, although I have left it a bit late for getting rid of the amount of weight I need to.
Haven't managed to book the registry office yet, but am hoping to speak to the appropriate lady by the end of the week.
Am clamping down on all thoughts to do with hiring entertainers etc etc (or actually having fun!)
Gone against my deep-seated personal belief that I am not my father's daughter to be given away, and offered him/Mum to send out invitations in their name. Once they'd got over the shock, they were thrilled. They will also being paying postage and dealing with the queries. Lol.
Need to sit down with H2B (husband to be) to work out what we need to buy. Not having engagement rings, only wedding ones. I should point out that he hasn't actually proposed yet. But he has promised to turn up. We're going down a week before anyway with DS so he'll already be in the county, lol.
DS is doing year 6 SATs at the moment. He's not worried but feedback is that there were some crazy questions in the science one on Monday. He looks quite happy but has huge black rings under his eyes and is talking in his sleep. Bless him. We'll spoil him on Saturday night.
Solicitor is supposed to be calling today about the issue with my part time job. Will see what he says. Am managing to put it out of my mind most of the time.
Anyway, been organising H2B so he has gone off to town to do some chores. ANd I must be getting on.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Marru, that's gtreat news about your mystery gift! I'd be demented trying to work that one out but it must have been a lovely surprise for you.
MrDT, have a great holiday
Mumzy, hope you're OK
I have DGD here today again, so I'm HOPING that 3 year-old's can weed gardens and collect/rehome snails. She'll probably ask for a manicure afterwards! :rotfl:
I've been frantically bid, bid, bidding trying to get a greenhouse, as there's no way I have the space to grow on all these tomatoes and peppers. I went out early this morning and dug out the circle where last year's beans were growing (we don't like beans) and have transplanted the rhubarb to that patch. The peas have been potted into trays, so I'm hoping for at least 36 plants at a time and am planning on growing them up the wall & fence at the side of the patio - sounds posher than concrete yard. :rotfl:
Bails - did you try planting the garlic cloves? I have 2 of the 3 growing now and they are about 6" high already. Gardening certainly cuts down on food shopping - you're too busy gardening to eat and when you do remember, it's far easier to have a roll and something off the BBQ.
Joy of joys, look what we have to look forward to this evening - It Pays To Watch, then the property programmes, then Desperate Housewives and then free bingo tickets to start collecting!I really feel a win coming this week... pleeeeeease.
PS: DGD now wants more grass and a pond with ducks and a frog and wants to go back into the garden right now and why isn't the piggie in his new house in the garden and can we have a picnic and can we have a babby coo and can we go in the garden now and are we going to the post office and can we make pie and cake and.... why? Aren't 3 year-olds great at running commentaries?!I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

For anyone who missed the programme about cheap food here is a link where you can watch it again

I found it would be helpful to beginners but not enough detail
What worries me is that if you are already living quite a frugal life its almost impossible to cut back more if your quite wasteful then you can
So as usual the poor get poorer..........................

I posted this else wher but thought it would be appropriate here too*****

Thank you so much Nyk, I am laughing here with tears in my eyes... My work will ring me soon so better compose myself. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Whitewing - you seem to be doing brilliantly - well done! :T"Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Hi, my name's Bails and I am addicted to Chocolate Homewheat Digestives
and animals  Fortunately the first are on offer at the local shop....the second I am having more trouble with :rotfl:I've just been to the Home, to get more cat food and pick up the trap, HONESTLY, and fallen in love with a huge white fluffy German Shepherd called Candy
- silly name but gorgeous dog. Oh, and just about every other animal in there :rotfl:I think I need sectioning
ROFLing at your DGD Nyk, I know someone else like thatI haven't planted the garlic yet, will add that to my to do list. This morning I've replanted spinach and lettuce, and my broccoli. Which reminds me, the Home are giving away the remnants of their plant sale, which is fab (although I will make a donation anyway) but the trouble is, I can't recognise what most of them are
They also have half price cat food so I'll go back tomorrow and ask someone to explain what they are whilst mumbling about being a novice gardener etc
Whitewing, great news about the venue, lol that OH hasn't even asked you yet; don't think mine will either but we're not getting married til he does (hmm, perhpas that's his plan)Marru refused my offer to go and play at the bottom of the garden with him last night - I tell you, that girl is fussy :rotfl:Do you really not know who the BM is from Marru, the wink makes me think you do?

Marru, that's amazing news about the breadmaker. Do you think your fairy godmother/godfather could manage another adoptee?
I think I know who it is...
At last I have some (very mildly) dramatic news of my own. I was to take an exam tonight (because I do it as part of an evening class) and got up early to swot for it, my only 'swotting time' all week. The college rang to tell me there will be no exam and no evening class either - a local builder, working 2 streets away, has severed a cable and there is no electricity on site...the entire college has closed down! Coming on the heels of Slowlyfading's pre-exam fire, it makes me wonder if there's a Frugalist Exam Curse in operation... _pale_'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe
