Please can i have some advice from a more experienced cook? I'm thawing out a chicken to roast tomorrow - the idea is to put it on, go for a walk with my friends and come back to lunch. I'm doing it in my normal oven, inside a chicken brick so it doesn't dry out. My question is, can i roast it slowly, a bit like doing it in a slow cooker, inside the brick? (I do have a slow cooker but the bird is too big and I want to avoid breaking it up if poss.) How low / how long can i leave it?

Thanks, Mumzy. It's 1.7 kilos - what does your gran think?
Normally I'd just do a teeny-weeny one in the slow-cooker and never worry about timing, or I'd do a big one at normal speed in the oven and be there to keep an eye on it (cos the oven's a bit temperamental) but I'm trying to get the best of both worlds here.

I would think a low oven about gas 3 would take about 3 hrs (i always put a little liquid in my roasting tin so it part steams/roasts and then use the stock for gravy

Not sure if you can add water to brick

Hi, back again, Mumzy. We're out for about 2-3 hours, not sure because it's a cross-country walk and depends on wet ground, etc. I'm beginning to think I'll just cut the bl**dy thing up and put it in the slow-cooker and save all of us a shedload of trouble - your gran included! :D Don't know why I'm making life so complicated, it's not as if I haven't got enough to be thinking of already. :o But please tell your gran thanks very much, and thanks to you, too. :D

Thanks Shaz, that might do it. Like i said to Mumzy, I'm beginning to think I'm just being a silly girl here, making stuff more complex than it needs to be. So what if there isn't crispy skin, my mates will forgive me.

I see you've got £4k stoozed. Respect! - haven't started yet but stoozing is lined up as a future project.

Hi everyone, had a lovely day with Marru today wandering round her college looking at loads of animals with the monkey :D who is very cute and beautiful and a little 'determined' when she wants to be ;) Am now exhausted, been lying here searching for land but unless I want to buy in the Orkneys it seems impossible  Anyone ever looked for/bought land and know where to start with it please?
Glad you had a lovely birthday SophiesMum and were spoilt. Hope you all have a lovely evening, see you tomorrow when I'm more awake x
