Dont be put off by the head office and put it all down in writing to them. Also when sending it to them make sure it is at least recorded post. It would also be an idea to make a copy of each letter you send and send to council and baliffs and a copy for yourself - I know it sounds like a lot of paperwork but that way both places are kept informed and you can keep track all along the way.
Both places sound like a bunch of ........................ better not say!
Well done for standing up to him. If he does come back then imagine him in a nappy or even naked! That way he does not seem so intimidating
Have you got another cup of hot chocolate to hand?😁0 -
starlite why not run off copies of the guidlines you found compile a letter to both bailiffs and the council again with some kind of statment of affairs and the copy of your current sicknote explain you have very little in way of possessions and given current situation could not replace the items should you have let the bailiff in so it is not that you are not trying to co-operate but trying to find a resolve that will suit all concerned and point out that the debt is born from a few missed months and the remainder of advanced months payments and whilst you are not in receipt of your benefits and b/f is on a training course there is one almighty stuggle going on but as an intrim you can pay say £5 per week and look at increasing this or paying a lump sum of some kind when benefits are sorted and backpayed
Send to both parties and state cc at the bottom to both and keep a copy and fax reciept if you can fax them to both and if you get no quick reply next week start paying religiously the offer made at the weekly rate this can only help you if it goes back to court at a later date ......... hope this is of some interim help until you can get the CAB to assist you further£2.00 savings club =£2.000 -

i have finally gotten somewhere
J ust spent ages on the phone to the councils enforcement department.
i explained our situation, and told her what their guidelines state and she replied very curtly 'well what are you talking about , you owe us money, we don't have to do anything for you!'
- obviously didn't even know their own policies...pah!
Then I got more persistent, and said I wouldn't cooperate with the bailiffs, that it was causing me undue stress when i am already ill, and I am far more concerned about mine and my babies health.
She said I have to make an arrangement with the bailiff, and I told her he has refused and is demanding the full amount, which we are in no position to pay. she then dug out the budget I faxed over yesterday and ummed and ahed a little and suggested we offer £50 per month, with the first payment at the end of this month and by the time the next one is due my council tax benefit and incapacity will have been processed so the owed amount will reduce, and the amount we have to pay will
for some reason, they seem to think being unemployed and having no income means we can afford to pay more than we will once benefits are sorted.
She has offered to deal with the bailiff herself, and will call me back to tell me when the first payment is due
hoorah
hope this is the end of it all..
and yes..lots of hot chocolate today!...and cake! heheMembre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
I agree with 2 other posters. Write a letter and send it RD. Did you say earlier that you had no printer? as I agree with the suggestion of printing off the guidelines you found (and highlighting them) in your letter. If you don't have a printer can someone else help you out there, family/friends or even another MSE member if you're comfortable giving you address to them, and the member doesn't mind doing it. We've not got any paper at min or I'd offer, but could anyone else help starlite if she wishes to do this?0

I would help if needed or even send you cartridges and paper for your printer - could probably get them from work anyway
not saying that I wouldn't buy them but if work has bought them already - oh I am just going to shut up now ;(

Starlite - what printer do you have, if you still have it?😁0

I can print out essentials in the shop downstairs- they let me use their fax too which is handy.
I will be following up my conversations this afternoon with letters to both places, confirming what has been arranged, and moaning a litle! heheMembre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
another mse-er has offered to order me some cartridges through work, so we are okay for that thanks!
