Why wil he not make an arrangment over the phone? Ijust don't get it, I have faxed an income/expenditure and a letter of our proposal to him thanks to the shop downstairs, so I don't see why this isn't enough proof..,
fair enough he may suspect we have a ferrari stashed under our sofa, but surely only people in a bad financial situation ever have to deal with bailiffs..
i mean if we could afford a plasma tv why on earth would I be calling him in tears over a council tax debt..
It makes me so angry..and now I don't know what to do
-let him in in order to set up agreement and risk him going back on his word,
-or ignore calls and doorbell and live in fear for a few weks until it is passed back to council

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've been reading this thread with interest and keeping my fingers crossed for you. I had to post to say NO DO NOT LET HIM IN. No matter what he says do not let him in because if he calls again and you are out he can break in. He will almost definitely take your tv and computer no matter how little they are worth.

A friend of a friend works for a Bailiff firm and they get first pickings on everything the Bailiff takes from a house before it goes to auction. Apparently this friend has a house full of really good stuff (plasma tv, good quality stereo etc) which he has paid peanuts for. Even if the items go to auction they make very little so it would not really help towards your debt.

What if i say the tv belongs to our flatmate? wil he need proof or take my word for it?

Starlite sorry hun but how many times do you think he will have heard that before and will undoubtably ask for proof of ownership ie: a genuine receipt stateing when were and who bought it
Dont worry to much about tv unless it is relatively new or modern it should be next to useless to him probably only £10- £30 will be levied on it and not worth the hassel of picking it up .....Also if no TV present when he arrives do you not think he will suspect you removed items from the flat to look like you are poorer than you claim and this will throw suspicion on you immediatley Not having bare neccessities that we all have in our very modern and techno lifestyles after all can you in fairness recall going in to anyones home that doesn't have a tv( i know there are a few people out there that live quiet happily without and i would to but not without puter to replace it lol) The comp however would have a better resale value even if not state of the art and would suggest if you really are going to let him into the property get it and the stereo out as i said earlier
    £2.00 savings club =£2.00

Starlite - i am finishing work now so wont be able to post again until tomo. Actually wont to stay at work for once - to stay talking on here

Maybe this decision is for you and partner to decide together?

IMO i dont think you should let him in, even if its just because its a pretty scary thing for someone to face on their own anyway! Esp being female and pregnant!

Def have a think about putting ur bits on ebay, think it'll be great :D

I will come back tomo to check how things are.

Hope I haven't dissapointed all of you in check for a call at the door..I was firing myself up to blank him and then let you know how brave I was..but then again after I get more advice from you guys the same situation may arise tomorrow!
I'm actually pretty pee'd off that it isn't happening today, I'd rather have it over and done with..and am still slightly suspicious he may have lied to catch me out so I answer the door this evening and he can get in.

Saying he is tied up today..so I am not worried to answer the door and he can get a 'foot in' if you see what I mean.

Be care ful about removing the computer - it is a good idea so that he cant take it but there is nothing to say that he wont see you move it somewhere out of the flat...

At least he has said he cant make it there today so you can try to relax, sod it have another shandy if it helps - a little bit of alcohol wont hurt the baby.

I suspect most of us will be online again or if not all the time so do keep us informed or just to let off some steam!!!!

The number in the PM I sent you will still be available tomorrow if needed :)
