They'd been touting for Arabic-speaking audience members for a few weeks before they issued the cash offer & obviously realised that the series would look very poor with almost empty audience shots! If you consider how much cash Saudi TV must be paying to be able to get a programme made over here, I'm sure adding in a budget to get the audiences in is peanuts.
(Best you usually get are priority tickets to something more popular; a couple of free drinks if they are feeling well-disposed or occasionally the odd show-related goodie, such as Paul O'Grady & his nodding Olga dogs)

How to Save £100 Billion
Channel Four are looking for an audience to take part in an eve of Budget Dispatches Debate called How to Save £100 Billion.
A series of radical tax and spending proposals that could address some of the £156 billion budget deficit will be put to a live audience who will then be given a chance to comment, ask questions and vote on each option.
The ideas range from putting VAT on food and children’s clothes, to cutting benefits, ending child benefits for the middle classes, tor charging to see your GP. It’ll be asking the audience to come up with their own money saving ideas for the government.
The programme will be recorded in the Roundhouse Camden on Monday evening on 21st June. Tickets are free – for details contact tstrutt@mentorn.tv 0 -
As usual it's in London. Like the rest of us don't need a voice."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0
