Excuse me - I have no 'personal vendetta', I just have the misfortune to have neighbours who put their 'need' to listen to loud music above the need of their neighbours for peace and so perhaps see your neighbours' point of view. I certainly don't need your advice not to threaten my neighbours.
I don't think you understand how bass travels in a building - perhaps the best advice you've had is to put a film on and then go next door to listen to it. You may very well be shocked.0

            Thanks zebulon.
We are going out but not straight away. Will be a few hours from 6pm when we all meet... with music on maybe!
I'd prefer the letter idea. I'm not happy approaching her due to her very strong opinions. She won't accept any vocal reasoning at all. Everything I said to her went in one ear, out the other as you'd imagine.
It would appear the problem is definitely bass frequency so will investigate that first.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

That's why I said reasonable. The OPs volume levels might be reasonable, but the neighbour could have a paranoia about the slightest sound. Or vice-versa.
Therefore disabling the system entirely is a last resort.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Thing is if they can hear it it is already too loud.
Personally having been on the other side of this its you to blame , if you cant hear their music or tv then well......
I think folk with big stereo set ups and cinema sourround sound in flats or attached properties are ignorant b's.There is such a thing as headphones , I especially hate hard flooring and would rather live in a detached carboard box tyhan live in a flat again.
I suffered for 18 months under a couple like that , music on , playstation and surround sound movies both on different shifts meant twice a day....yet if they were only watching corrie and the like I could not hear a thing.Once they almost grew up they started complaining about the noise of the new tennant was making exactly like they did when they had their kid at home , but when the kid was at grans for what seemed like the whole weekend it was loud city all over again.
If your in a rented flat you should be worried about complaints to landlords , asbos for noise levels.
get an ipod , and some wireless 5.1 headphones....then everyone is happy.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0

 ?!?!?!?!
I do not play loud music.
You have stereotyped your neighbours in this situation I'm afraid.
And correct, i ADMITTED i don't understand how bass travels. That's why I'm asking people how to stop it at the moment.
Tilly knows (her name) that I would do anything to ensure peace and no conflict. That's why it quite upset me how threatening she was. we've lived hear for nearly 12 months, WITH the sound, and this is the first/only time she's complained. No difference in volume levels. I see her all the time and she's always been lovely and polite.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

have you read what I said? *sigh*. Please people stop stereotyping!!!!!!!!!!!! *cries*
ONE movie a week, maybe twice MAX and its not on that loud. People have suggested softening bass and I'd like to know more about this.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I watch all my DVD's and listen to music on headphones. I bought some decent high end units on Amazon for nearly half price. The sound quality is amazing and I disturb noone. (Not having a go at the OP, they might well be totally reasonable levels, but headphones are an option).Happy chappy0

My partner works in music/audio and we have loads of acoustic tiles at home - they're foot square black 'egg crate' tiles which absorb a lot of the frequencies when you place them around the rooms. I think my OH paid about £200 for fifty. They're not the prettiest solution but they do help, and are a bit of a compromise if your landlord is unwilling to do anything permanent. Unfortunately it IS a case of compromise - a lot of flats have little in the way of sound insulation and people often don't realise how much noise they're making - we're in a similar(ish) situation at the moment and discussed it with out letting agent yesterday, he probably thought we'd flipped lol but you can get really worn down with this kind of thing and just 'go', especially if it's been going on for a few months.0

Nonsense. You've no idea of what my neighbours are like - I was merely using them as an example.
Personally I'd never buy surround sound speakers while living in a flat - I think it is incredibly selfish to use them unless you have a detached house, or are in a room with no party wall.
You clearly just want to people on this thread to back you up and say that your neighbours are unreasonable.0
