Rented House - Law on sound?!?

The lady might have been angry as she's been disturbed by the noise a number of times in the past and today was the final straw that broke the camel's back.
Talk to her again, be nice and polite - practise some negotiating skills which will stand you in good stead when you're out in the world of work where people really ARE totally unreasonable and go postal for the least thing.
If you're in a flat which was previously part of a house the soundproofing may be inadequate and you need to take that into account.................. ....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 ....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0

Another important factor is I don't wanta bad landlord reference. He's a fantastic guy as well actually so I'll give him a ring in a few mins. Thanks for that
So need to think what I can put the sub on to reduce frequencies? When I'm in the bedroom with it on at teh same volume, we can't tell at all lol[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

The flats are relatively new and built as flats indeed.
Also there is no other place for the Sub which is a bit frustrating for us... I'd be happy spending some money for a unit or something as someone suggested, to absorb the frequency? But no one has suggested what yet [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net." What type of rubber can I put under teh sub and behind it against the wall?
The sub is from a Logitech Surround Sound system so is prob as big as something like 2 xbox 360's next to each other... (only thing i can think of to compare it!)
Try scouring through this thread for suggestions. Some sites recommend an Auralex Gramma (a low level platform) or spikes. What is your floor finish?

 As I mentiond,
It is NOT on loud! I can't say that enough times. If there is frequency problems from the sub as other people have said, then i will look to solving that.
So please stop saying turn it off/down as its already very quiet!!! We watch a film once or twice a week max
And I also said we're students renting!
I'm sure my neighbours don't realise that the bass from their sub makes sitting in a room while they have it on completely unbearable. I have to sit in my kitchen when they put their music on - very unfair in my opinion. What's the big deal with just unplugging the surround sound?0

Nothing you can do about what's underneath, but is there any spare carpet? Spotted one suggestion that a couple of inches of carpet underneath can help reduce transmittal. Unplugging the surround is a last resort - you have a right to lead a reasonable life.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. beecher, you have a personal vendetta so how can you comment in this thread unbiasedly?
Once again if someone like yourself came over and talked to us about it, we would discuss it and come up with a resolution.
The problem here is they got very very angry with us and started threatning us, even though we're freindly and on first name turns.
There is no massive deal excpet the fact I spent money on them and films sound fantastic through it. even when its not on loud!
And for the 5th time I'll happily sort out the frequency problem by buying something.
Beecher, in yoru situation, I advise you speak to them very very nicely just so they know the problem but don't threaten them.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

we have none, but I know the landlord re-decorated this place when we moved in with new carpet, so I'll give him a ring and ask him. Thanks for the advice.
The subdude looks good but seems like its £157 in the UK and $50 in the US. I guess that forum is american [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net." [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Many people suggested to go and talk to her - but maybe you could write a nice letter instead if you think she'll just get angry and not listen if you try to talk to her.
I would propose that you arrange a day/time when you can come over their place and try the TV sounds so that you know which level you can put it on....
i know basically it cant be less as you would not hear anything, but this way you'll know what she's on about, either there is a problem as other people suggested on vibration etc etc or she actually went crazy (if you put the TV on at your usual sound level, and once at her place she says it's usualy much louder... she has a problem!)
I would not be optimistic for the party though... unless you're planning to go out0
