Slimming World and OS real food dilemma

I was slimmer of the week at my SW class about 3 weeks ago. In my "fruit basket" prize, there was a multitude of packets of instant noodle things, instant rice things, and instant pasta things.
Can you take this up with your consultant? The fruit basket has to contain fresh fruit and at a push fresh veg, never anything else. If you get no joy from her, or dont feel able to, can you email head office and mention it? Lots of consultants do a raffle which the tins/packets go into, maybe suggest that to your cons?0 -
I must say, like Seraphina I found the idea of zero pointed foods on WWs useful too-it did make working out points a bit easier and I could make up good recipes myself.
I find the hard thing is accept that weight loss involves some measure of brainwork and effort as well as will power. I may give WWs another go0 -
This is a very interesting thread thanks!:T I have lost nearly 2 stone at SW and try to cook from scratch but its not always possible as I work full time and have a partime job too. I do try and avoid the pasta and sauce and noodles things, I have tried them but am not too keen - I prefer real food.
I am now at my target so dont have to pay at SW:j but still go for the weigh in. I just try and eat sensibly, smaller portions, less bread, dont eat meat just fish, cut out the rubbish and exercise a bit.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
This is a very interesting thread. I have been trying to follow SW for a few weeks now and i admit a few of these thoughts had crossed my mind. For example, i went out for lunch with work one day and used up all my syns. So that night when i got home i wanted something 'free' for dinner.
My choices were basically the batchelors pasta&sauce i had bought to try. Or to eat the HM chicken & veg curry that i was making for the kids. Feeling guilty for my lunch time blow out, i ate the pasta and sauce. Over 500 calories of processed crap, yet supposedly free and 'better' than eating a lovely HM curry full of lean meat, fresh herbs and veggies etc. It is not a decision i will be making again.
I think the problem comes because there are very different reasons why people gain weight. The standard stereotype of people who eat lots of ready meals and processed foods can really benefit from the SW diet, as there is a big emphasis on reducing consumption of these (the number free ready meals are actually quite low, jars of sauces etc are high syn). The 'low fat' yohurts etc are less calorific than the full fat chocolate pudding type yoghurts this stereotypical person may have been eating before. Its unlikly that this person would be concerned with the health implications of artificial sweetners - only that by replacing sugar they are going to lose weight.0 -
know exactly what you mean:T0

I have been doing SW since January and have losy 16 1/2 pounds so far
I try to stay away from the pasta and sauce and the savoury rices etc as they are just full of rubbish.
the problem I have is that I work relly long hours and managing to take something into work for 2 meals sometimes that fits in with SW and is healthy and portable and not salad again is a struggle.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -
Cleosmum, could I ask you a huge favour? Could you ask your Consultant about the homemade pasta thing please?"Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

Sounds like a thread dedicated to SW/WW dieters who also want to stick to their principles about not eating cr*p would be useful...anyone?"Finish each day And be done with it.

Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

I didn't know that. Some of the stuff in there even had syns because people were bringing all sorts.
I'm not going at the moment because dh is away at sea, so I'm just carrying on myself, but cooking meals and freezing individual portions of things that I have batch cooked.0 -
I don't go to Slimming World, so do excuse any ignorance I display here! I was doing Weightwatchers though (and still go to meetings even though I'm now doing healthy eating successfully instead). The reason I gave up WW methods was because I think I'm a right clever-clogs and can't cope with all the silly inconsistencies... crispbreads good, real bread bad??
Anyway, regarding home-made bread and home-made pasta, I'd cheat the system. If shop-bought pasta is a free food, treat home-made (as long as it's not stuffed with cheese!) in the same way. Similarly, if 57g bread is a "healthy extra" weigh out 57 grams of plain home-made bread and include it in your diet.
That's what I'd do, anyway!:DC'est le ton qui fait la chanson0
