Slimming World and OS real food dilemma

I do it - have lost 2stone only cooking OS as I'm not keen on anything processed. I'm lucky to have a fab greengrocers in my local town so can buy loads of lovely 'free' veg and fruit. If you are used to eating OS I think you need less adjustments to do SW well than if you have a more 'consumer' diet - bought sandwiches, ready meals, too many pre-cooked food.0

Hi Jane,
As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the existing thread on following slimming world while cooking Old Style food.

I've lost 7st with WW and although I did once try SW I found it confusing. WW is easy because I know how many points are in my favourited foods - it also helps me moderate my intake (serial over eater). I also didn't like SW because of the 'syns' - no food is a 'sin' it's just FOOD. So, with WW if I want to eat a doughnut for breakfast that's fine, I know I just have to take it easy for the rest of the day. Seemples!
I might add, I also took up marathon running and that obviously had a beneficial effect on my bum size!!0 -
Hi , I haven't read every page of the thread, only the first 2 and have run out of time : (, I just wanted to give the heads up about a book called nourishing traditions, its an American book, you can however get it on amazon. the book itself is about the size of the next directory and full of very interesting facts and research about obesity and healthy eating, it completely changes all known government food guidelines/food pyramids but it does have the research etc to back it up. A book that encourages eating butter and cream is definatley a bonus in my eyes, it also has hundreds of recipes. If you go onto Amazon.com you can actually look inside it and read a few pages etc.
Sorry if the above sounds like an advertisment but this book has finally answered many of the uncertainetys I have had over the past few years re sweetners and processed foods, which from 10 years of attending every diet/slimming clubs there are I know encourage the use of over unprocessed/manufactured foodstuffs.

Janiebaby- As a healthy choice you are allowed 2oz of wholemeal bread. I make a small loaf in my panny and two thin slices=2ozThe time will come when you have everything but time.0

I have taken on board the bone broths, pastured meat, and whole dairy though. I have to say none of this has made me lose weight, probably because I eat too many sugary carbs.
I think when it comes down to it the only realistic way to lose weight is to eat less and move more. Slimming World & Weight Watchers provide a fairly easy to follow system for doing so. Both can be followed in an OS way and without resorting to packaged food and sweeteners if you put your mind to it, it just takes some planning.0 -
I've done a calculation on my own sourdough recipe (500gm each of wholemeal and strong white, 20gms salt, 300gms starter for which I allow 150gms flour and 150gms water).
I reckon a Healthy Extra can be up to 75gms, however, I only go up to this on peckish days.
For Syns I calculated 57gms to be 4.5 Syns.
Have a look in a search engine for 'Sourdough bread: no knead to slave away' (yes I mean 'knead' sub-editors notoriously love weak puns) and you will find a reliable recipe from a national newspaper. My starter has been going nearly a year now, and it's really just a baby in sourdough terms. I would not go back to yeast risen bread now, as the taste of sourdough is wonderfully full and satisfying. I haven't bought in a shop except in France, for years.
I find SW suits me as I am a vegetarian, a good cook from scratch, and I love pasta, rice and carbohydrates. I lose weight slowly, but steadily, and never feel cranky on it. But chacun son gout mes amis!0
