Oh Really?
On the very first page, i wonder how many like this i would find if i bothered with all 200 pages?
If the partner and child are happy with what they're eating, I don't find any need to tell them it's not the top brand. That's not lying by any means. How many husbands are liable to sit down and discuss the relevant merits of various brands, they wouldn't know one from the other - well, clearly they don't!
I think if the thread amuses you, fine, have a giggle but if you're annoyed by it (which you seem to be) there's a button you can press to unsubscribe.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

This is probably a silly question but could you freeze the onions too?
I would imagine they will freeze fine, but then I do freeze virtually anything.
Does anyone know how long the onions take roughly? I'm doing a quiche today so will have oven on for about 25 mins - will that be long enough?
BTW this thread is fab - it was one of the first I read when I became MSE and I have learnt loads of tips  thanks all xBon App's Scraps!MFb40 # 130 -
Sorry I haven't read this thread right through (There is rather a lot:D)
My DH and DS say they will only eat HP beans so I have an old tin and leave it on the side in the kitchen while I am serving Tesco value. They have never noticed as long as they see the tin they are happy:rotfl:
As for trust issues, I do this as my DH can't be trusted to stick to the budget when he goes shopping so I have to make cuts. So we both must have trust issues:pSealed Pot Challenge Member NO. 853 :j0 -
I just wanted to say thanks for all the tips on this thread. Obviously I don't use all of them but I've tried a couple and they save me a few pence here and there for little hardship.
I find it rather amusing that somebody thinks swapping brands is lying and having trust issues. Unfortunately most men are rather easily taken in by add campaigns and need that little extra help!! The only brand thing I won't compromise on in Heinz KetchupDecember GC £23.43/120 :T
Nationwide Overdraft £1136, Natwest Overdraft £1800(interest free), Natwest Credit Card £155/£350
Aim to clear overdrafts by Summer 2010

I have to agree with Bobbyj, saving money and being smart about saving is one thing.
But this thread is unbelieveable!! It's almost as funny as the Viz tips! At least i got a good laugh from it
Oh, Robgmun, you little tinker. Your post of 01/02/2010 3.45pm 'Hello, let me introduce myself', on the debt free wannabe board, tells me that you were £14k in debt 12 months ago. Some people never want to get to that stage, hence our 'frugality' now, even if it's only stepping down a brand it all helps to keep us debt-free and living within our means.
Glad to see that you've reduced the debt significantly though, and thanked people on the boards for their help in doing so. That's what this site is all about isn't it?0 -
is life worth living when one has to scrape like this? Seriously.
:mad::mad:
"I have 6 figures in my share ISA which i use to trade shares with and also £30000 in premium bonds (obviously winnings not taxed). I'm in my early 30s " - taken from your own post... sounds like you are some city boy coming on here to laugh at the plebs..learn some compassion for the people your bonuses probably put in this situation...:eek:What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Oh Really?
On the very first page, i wonder how many like this i would find if i bothered with all 200 pages?
I think you really need to catch yourself on before making such a silly judgemental comment. There are people in this site who are in absolutely desperate and dire situations, so if they need to tell porkies about the brand of cornflakes to help make ends meet, then so be it.
Like it or not, people are SNOBS when it comes to brands -my own Mother would turn her nose up at anything value, yet that's all she gets at my house (bar quality meat and eggs), yet she often jokes that she would pay me to bulk cook for her . She doesn't know it's value stuff - if she did, suddenly she wouldn't like it for that very reason. What she doesn't know won't hurt her.
My mother was a single parent, and barely had enough money to feed and clothes us at times and she too hid brands from us kids.
Looking at your previous posts I see you have paid around £7750 of your debts off in the past year since your "devorce". I would like to congratulate you on that. Genuinely well done.
There are people on this site, who don't even earn that much, never mind have that much disposable income. There are people here who haven't been on holiday as a family EVER, there are people who live on handmedowns and charity from others, there are plenty who couldn't afford a christmas in December, families who have £40 to live on in a month
I don't think I really need to continue. In fact, your post was so ridiculous and judgemental I am now convinced it was typed purely for a reaction. Surely no one could have such a lack of empathy for others less fortunate than them?:(A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

As a follow on from the roasting onions idea I often use the floor of the oven to cook the fruit course. (Only works with gas I think) Things like plums, if pricked to stop them bursting, can be cooked sloely with a little water and sugar.
The other shelves will take a tray of buns or scones. Don't forget them or you will have African Buns (Very burnt!!)
