It may surprise you to know, that not everybody is fortunate enough to have a spare half a million knocking around that can be gambled with (as that's what investing is).

Some people have very little money to live on and these tips are very helpful to them.

I'm fortunate in that I don't have to use 1 teabag for several cups of tea and I can afford to buy Clipper fair trade teabags, but some of the tips on here, I've found useful.

I begrudge waste - of any kind - I need to budget, but even if I had more money I wouldn't want to spend it if I didn't need to.

So saying, some of the tips on here do sound funny - squashing toilet rolls being one. But don't take the thread as a joke as we are deadly serious

is life worth living when one has to scrape like this? Seriously.

Definitely! It can be fun to find little ways to save the pennies These are simple habits, which over a lifetime can not only save money, but also be a responsible use of our planet's resources. What better way to show our children that resources are not to be wasted carelessly, but to be valued and appreciated.

In my personal experience, I find life much the richer when I think about the food and energy that I'm using. I also find it fun to discover new ways of holding on to our hard-earned cash and to use our finances for other things. In our case, it means we can buy more organic, fairly traded and higher welfare foods, to support our local farmers as well as general savings in the bank for those rainy days.:j

I think what you will find is that the 'partners' after saying they have to have a specific brand of loo roll, beans, shampoo, deodorant etc,did not notice a great deal of difference in quality or taste when they were swithced ......so lying is a bit strong, being inventive with limited means is what this is all about. I am sure if they were told they had been consuming a 29p can of beans over the branded 64p tin they might have to eat some humble pie.....so sometimes it is best left unsaid.
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post

And the big brands trust the partners to believe their products are better! and charge us more accordingly.

We're protecting them from the marketing spin with purely kind and caring intent. Sneaky, devious, duplicitous and furtive but fun.

I suggest anyone with a guilty conscience should get their partners to log on and pick up their own tips for a chance to get their revenge.

all that is is an example of how marketing brainwashes people,it is not proof of lying as such as how do you know that the partner or child have been told they are eating kelloggs? from what i see they are just assuming that kelloggs is in the tin........

This is a simple idea I've picked up from elsewhere on the internet.

Whilst you have the oven on roasting the meat or for cooking a casserole etc, put a roasting tray with sliced onions a little oil and some butter in the bottom of said oven and these will roast quite easily.

Can once cooled be put into a tub in the fridge and be used during the week to add into things as needed.

No need to chop and fry off onions each time some is needed for a recipe.

    hth

This is probably a silly question but could you freeze the onions too?

Brilliant thread, no matter what some people think. I for one have to watch every penny and this whole site has been an inspiration to me. I'm really grateful for all the people who give their advice and hints on how to save money :T thank you all
