As a follow on from the roasting onions idea I often use the floor of the oven to cook the fruit course. (Only works with gas I think) Things like plums, if pricked to stop them bursting, can be cooked sloely with a little water and sugar.
The other shelves will take a tray of buns or scones. Don't forget them or you will have African Buns (Very burnt!!)

is life worth living when one has to scrape like this? Seriously.0

I suppose its a matter of personal taste too.!
I will make do and mend with most things, including the cheaper loo rolls, but I cannnot stand the basic cheap "margarine spreads". I have to have one of the like butter spreads.
I think if you want "life to be worth living", you have to put things into perspective. If you can enjoy other things, becuase of your savings its sometimes well worth it.
I have always had a tight budget, when I was bringing up the kids. But now my income is also only 1/4 of what it was a year ago, so I dont feel I have much choice but to face all the challenges head on, and try and keep myself motivated by any small successes I make, giving me say an extra £5 in my purse to enjoy spending it in a local charity shop or somewhere similar. Then the things I purchase get turned into gifts for others etc... That then also gives me pleasure. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
It is funny because I asked advice re investing half a million pounds on another thread, well not advice, rather general comments. I got the impression most on there thought £500,000 wasn't alot of cash. I then browse on here and it's another world!! So long as peeps are happy then that's the main thing ;-)))0

I am NOT going to get an online shop this week as will be going near Waitrose when I visit the dentist next week:eek::eek::eek:
went shopping for the 1st time instore on monday and remembered why I started shopping online(over an hour to buy £32 worth of food and not an enjoyable experiance:mad:)........also tempted to buy choclate eclairs which OH refuses to eat......don't you just hate goody two shoes?.......mind you he said he was attacked by the pringles last week and they forced him to finish the tin!!!!(not sure I believe him tho!)
made cottage pie for tea and enough to freeze for 2 meals as only OH and me at home at the moment.
if you have self control shopping in store is by far the thriftiest!!!!
you can often get the reduced bargains- AND when they select the groceries for delivery to house shoppers they always take the ones nearset to go off soon.......you just pay full price for them!!:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
IMHO this thread shows great ingenuity such as like built the Forth Bridge( just on a slightly lesser scale !) Most of the ideas double as great fun too and inspire people , rather than getting spoonfed , to use their brains and do something useful too. Long may this thread continue ......."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

give over! We're on about squeezing teabags out to get an extra brew here, hardly compares to a magnificent feat of engineering!! Made me chuckle though so thanks.0

I have to agree with Bobbyj, saving money and being smart about saving is one thing.
But this thread is unbelieveable!! It's almost as funny as the Viz tips! At least i got a good laugh from it0 -

3 Women using disposables could save a fortune if they bought a menstrual cup (each!). Cost approx. £20 and lasts about 10 years.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0
