I have to respond to some of the stuff a few pages back about loo rolls. I did some army training many years ago and we were issued with a few sheets of loo paper in the ration packs. The men were unconcerned. We women were aghast. Even more so when the sargeant showed us how to make ONE sheet do for our needs. (I'mnot talking passing water here}.
1. Tear off a small corner and put it aside.
2. Push your finger through the middle of the paper.
3. Use your FINGER to clean yourself.
4. Drag the paper off the finger, cleaning your finger as it goes.
5. The small corner you put aside is for under your fingernail...
you forgot to say fold the paper in half, then half again, then tear off the corner to create a hole when opened up!2015.......I aim to have a tidy de cluttered house by Xmas

One area I save a lot of money on is my hair - I have let it grow long, and my partner and I trim eachother's hair when it needs it. Only go to a hairdresser occasionally for a good shaping cut. I keep it in good condition with quality shampoo and other hair products, don't dye it or blow dry it much, so it is usually sleek and shiny, and can be styled easily either up or down for a special event.
For blokes, a similar saving could be had by using a cheap set of clippers to cut your own hair. (Or getting someone else to cut it for you!)Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -

One side saying everyone is a skinflint and the other side saying they would have to commit suicide if they didn't have sneaky ways to save the pennies... (oh where has the confused emotion gone?).
I think it's up to anyone how they choose to spend or save their money but to the man/woman who mentioned suicide as the only alternative to scrimping ..... Are you getting benefits? Don't they give you anough to live on? I think that was a very worrying comment to be honest.
You seem to have totally misunderstood my post. I have to go out and do some errands now but will pm you a full explanation later. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Brilliant thread guys :j
On the loo paper front, Farmfoods and Home Bargains do 9 rolls of Nicky toilet roll for £1.99. Its as good as, if not better than Charmin and Andrex IMO.
The best moneysaving thing I found this year though was using Jojoba oil as a cleanser. It costs £10 a bottle but compared to what I would normally spend on cleansers this was a great saving. Can also be used as a moisturiser!
That's interesting - I don't like paying the price for Andrex but do find it's the best loo roll and seems to last for ages. I'll look out for Nicky. Thanks for the tip.April Grocery Challenge: £80/£64.39

I went to India for 5 weeks when I was 16 and stayed with the locals (I had a friend with family out there). I knew that they didn't use loo roll so I took my own, but this ran out so I resorted to the local way of doing things, which is using your hand and water to clean yourself. It really wasn't that bad, once I'd got over the initial squeamishness, and I was certainly clean afterwards! Having said that, I never tried it again once I got back to the UK.April Grocery Challenge: £80/£64.39

Thats what me and the OH do. I cut his hair with clippers and he dyes mine and trims it. I save so much money and time by doing this plus it looks great too.MFW 2016 No 68 £1300/£8500 No new toiletries Cook sth different0 -
I just got through my year of hell, Dh became disabled, I gave up work to look after him and Dd came home with new partner. Thanks to the good old DHSS we really went through the mill but Dh said we should try and keep the Pc running for many reasons including my sanity. At the beginning of all this I was recommended to look at this site. I cannot express how much help Martin and all of you have been. I have thought I was good at pennypinching but even I had a shock at some of the money I have saved. Now we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and its just because of all the little things adding up such as buying full fat milk and watering it down. The ideas I have used are too many to mention but the very very best thing is....... Twinks hobknobs...... Thanks guys.Clearing the junk to travel light
