    :rotfl:

My Mum decluttered her sweets, Christmas choccies and bread sticks into my house today. I might need to declutter the bread sticks with a lager tonight, after a good soak (currently waiting for DS2 to FINALY give in and fall asleep - I don't need a 2 year old for company tonight thanks )

I think I deserve it for all the loft decluttering I've done the past 3 days :rotfl:

  • Great thread it'll take me ages to read it all.
A few from me, my hubby goes through jeans like no ones business, he has sharp knees :) so far I've made handbags, pin cushions, brooches, purses and bags from them :)
I also recycle our clothes into bags etc when they are passed their best.
My DS wanted a birthday party last year, but instead we used our Tesco vouchers and had a great day out at Drayton Manor.
I use old washed food cans to grow herbs and seedlings in.
Egg boxes (cardboard ones) are good for seedlings too and can be torn up and added to the compost bin.
Reuse coffee and jam jars to store pulses and dried fruit.
Swap seeds from our gardens with my Mum at the end of the Summer.
Use the library for me and DS a lot.
Shop online - it's a 16 mile round trip to supermarket so we save on petrol and I can't impulse buy and stick to a weekly menu.
Have a present drawer that I fill throughout the year with sale bargains etc.
    Make pressies and handmade cards.
Love looking for charity shop gold, for things to recycle or just unusual finds.
Think that's it for now, i'm sure I've duplicated other ideas here, so if so sorry :)

  • I've been reading this thread for a while and just remembered something I used to do when i was younger - not sure if it's been already suggested but thought I'd mention it just in case...

to make lipsticks last longer you can dig out the bits at the end and gently melt them together in a pan on the hob. Pour the mixture into little pots (such as the small ones used for lip balm) and you have a new colour that you can apply no problem with a brush. Alternatively, if you add a bit of vaseline/petrolium jelly, it makes a lip gloss, good for looking after your lips especially in this cold weather.

Two years ago I bought 21 pairs of identical black socks, reasoning being that the sock monster would take a while to get through them and I'd still have at least 1 matching pair. Well 28 missing socks later I've had to buy some more.

However the local supermarket has foiled me by only selling mixed packs of grey and black.

Does anyone how how to catch a sock monster? and where to buy cheap black cotton socks? (blessed or unblessed)

Prop up a big box with a stick. Place a sock under the box and when sock monster comes, he will knock the stick and trap himself under the box. They are fairly big, but not too clever. ;)

Must admit I'm glad that I'm not the only one who does that same thing with multiple black sock purchases. I'm not sure if places like Matalan or Costco might not do big packs of socks. Best of luck in finding some!

I always pin my socks together in the wash so they don't disappear on me. The only time I've lost socks is to curious dogs ;)

To keep socks together, I have a couple of washing nets that I keep in the laundry basket. I put dirty socks straight in a net when putting dirty clothes in the basket. When I am going to run a wash I zip up the bag and chuck it in the machine with the clothes.

Have separate ones for dark and light socks. I also have one for bras so they don't get too pulled about in the wash.

You do have to train yourself to do it but it is worth it in the long run.

I buy Lidl´ssavoury bix to have with cheese, a bit like a smaller version of Ritz crackers. They come in square plastic jars with a red lid and here in Spain cost 75cents, so would be about 65p in UK. They make good storage jars as they are dquare and so fit together well on the kitchen shelves. At that price they seem good value even if you don´t want the bix
